Eleanor Stone; pale skin, green eyes, red hair, cherry lips, cheeks that were a light pink and a graceful personality looked over her window. She smiled as the fresh air hit her cheeks and God knew how much she loved fresh air, especially when it rained.

It was dark out and it only sprinkled. Behind her, 'The Beatles' song "Across the Universe" played on her record player. She hummed and sang, never wanting the moment to end.

"Jai, guru deva, om
Nothing's gonna change my world.
Nothing's gonna change my world.
Nothing's gonna change my world-"

But it ended. Her voice slowly fading away.

Jasper Sweetwater stormed out of his home, tears in his brown eyes. He covered his face with his right arm as he continued to walk towards her house.

Eleanor quickly turned the music off, running out her room and downstairs into the front door. She opens it. "Jasper..." She looks at him, worry in her voice.

"You think- can I come in?" He says, almost sobbing. She shakes her head as she lets him in. "Um... I won't be long just- I had to get out of there." He continued to say before even more tears began to fall down his cheeks.

"What happened?" She wondered as she made her way to the couch. He followed. Eleanors parents had gone out of town and Eleanors little sister, Irene, was in her room sleeping.

He covered his eyes with his hands, slowly taking in deep breaths before finally uncovering his face and looking into Eleanors eyes.

Eleanor's eyes... to him they were everything. The way her eyes shined every time. The way they calmed him down. The way he could get lost in them forever. God he loved them and God knew how much he loved her...

But he wasn't hers.

"My mother... she said- she said I wasn't her son." Taking another breath he continued, "and to make things worse, her boyfriend is constantly hitting her and manipulating her into- into-" tears came down. "He raped her- and I- I-" Eleanor looked down at her feet.

Jasper and Eleanor have been best friends since they were five, they know everything about each other. They know each other's secrets, fears, weaknesses, and strengths. As well as their happiness, problems, and dreams. They knew everything about each other, like if they were interlinked.

Interlinked in a way.

His heart wanted her but her heart belonged to another and he knew that. So he never told her, never tried to make a move, never tried to make him hers because he knew, he knew that God would make him hers on his own time.

He only had hope and hope was keeping him alive.

"But... why would she say that? I mean- I don't understand why she would say that?" He nodded. Eleanor scooted closer to him, putting an arm around his back and placing her head on his shoulder.

"She told me that because I almost fought him." He said, his voice slowly breaking. "She said 'you're stupid- he loves me and if you can't accept that then you're not my son-" more tears began falling from his eyes.

Eleanors heart shattered, she couldn't believe her. How could a mother do that to her son! To her child!

"Jasper..." she said. "Stay the night... mom and dad won't mind, you know how they are. Stay." He looked at her. He knew she loved him but not the way he loved her. She loved him because he was a person; a human. She loved him because they were best friends.

Two friends. Two feelings. One life.

He loved her, she loved him.
