A redheaded lady comes into the room, she's wearing blue scrubs just like all the nurses around here. She's young, one of the younger nurses I've seen today. Early twenties maybe.
"Hey! I'm Maggie. Your..." She looks down at the clipboard. "Your Skylar?"
"Yeah that's me."
"And this is dad, I assume?"
"Yep." I answer
"He can walk you up to your room with me, but he can't stay since you have a roommate."
"Alright. That's fine."
"Nice, you're ready to go? Don't worry, it's not a far walk, but if you want to, I can take you in the wheelchair."
"No, that's okay, Sky needs to walk more." My father says. I roll my eyes.
Maggie was right, the walk wasn't long. Just a short elevator ride and a few steps to the room.
My hospital room was large, two beds separated by a blue curtain, a door at the end of the room that must lead to the bathroom.
"Hey, Annabell? Are you here?" Maggie calls out. "Oh, she must be in the restroom. Anyway, this is your room, it's not super cozy but a lot of the stuff is so you can't hurt yourself, like special bedsheets, handles, and sinks. We just take precautions."
One of the beds was clearly already taken since it was unmade, and had a cute, bright blue quilt on it. I took the made one.
"So, when are the visiting hours?" My dad asked.
"From nine to five." Maggie said, heading over to open up my bed for me.
"Alright. Well, I'll see you tomorrow Sky, mom and I will stop by around noon. Bring you some clothes to change into." Dad kissed me on the forehead.
"Bye, dad." He leaves the room, making sure to shut the door behind him.
"So, Skylar, your roommate Annabell will fill you in on more of the complex rules here but here are the ones you need to know now. First off, down the hall is the arts and crafts room, it's open from eight to seven. The library is right next to it, they don't have a huge selection of books but it's better than nothing. And I need to take your phone and shoelaces, just a precaution."
"Alright." I give them to her, then get to my bed, tired of talking.
"There is a dining room down the hall, we eat lunch at one, breakfast at ten, and dinner at six. Well, I should let you get some rest." She shuts the light off and heads out of the room, after I wave bye to her.
"Is she gone?" A girl, not much older than me, maybe about seventeen. Her hair was blonde, with the tips dyed purple. Her light skin was dotted with freckles, and her plump pink lips were formed into a smirk.
"Uh, yeah, are you my roommate?"
"Yeah, the one and only Annabell."
"Oh, well, I'm uh, Skylar."
"Yeah, nurse Maggie told me about you."
"Why where you hiding in the bathroom?"
"Tattoos, I'm just drawing on my arms." Annabell rolls up her sleeve of her navy blue sweatshirt. Sure enough, her pale arm is covered in drawings, of flowers, people, and animals.
"You're a good artist." I say, admiring her work. "So, how long have you been here?"
"Only a week and a half, not that long. There are people who've been here for months." Am I gonna be here for months? My mind starts to panic.
