It's the end of October. Next week, Theo's beloved uncle will arrive here.
It's also been a week since I let Theo skip school. He said he was still shaken up from the fight and just wanted to be closer to me. I understand what he feels because it's also the first time he got into trouble. I'm not going to blame him; it's never his fault. I should be the one that is responsible because I didn't anticipate this at all.
I should know better that kids around his age will sometimes get into unnecessary fights, even if it's just because of a minor problem.
Talking about that, Rio explained to me that Theo got into a fight because someone insulted me at school and Theo couldn't hold himself back. If that's the reason behind it, how could I get mad at my little brother, who just wants to defend his sister?
So I just let him do whatever he wants for the rest of the week. That also gives me time to make it up for him after leaving him for six months.
We were currently in the basement, discussing Graves and Makarov. While Theodore, Rio, Soap, and Gaz are upstairs playing between themselves. It's more of the three that were playing while Rio watched them for me.
"I have no problem at all about what you guys are going to do." I started as I turned around from the chair that faced various screens in the playroom in the basement. That now slowly shifted to be their room to use. I leaned back against it, then looked at each of them. "Just make sure Theo doesn't know about it even one bit. And I meant what I said." I kept my straight face as I tried to get my point delivered perfectly to the three other people in the room.
"We are completely aware, dear." Laswell replied as she looked up from the blueprint that sprawled on the table.
I only shrug at her answer as I get up from the seat and move to open a small fridge in the corner of the room to take a bottle of water. "Just saying."
As I leaned against a wall to twist open the bottle, a voice came from a radio attached to the room. This room is soundproof, so the radio is a necessary thing to inform me if I'm way too deep in my work when I work from here. But I haven't told any of the team that we have this radio. Only Rio and Theo are the ones that know. And I bet both won't tell anyone unless I tell them to.
"Sis, someone's knocking on the door. You waiting for someone?" Comes Theo's sweet voice, which made me look up to where the radio is on the wall.
I walk to where I sit before and press a particular button on the table. "No. Don't open the door. I'm going upstairs." As simple as that, I dismissed myself from the team and quickly walked upstairs. The half-open bottle is still in hand, and I throw it at the bin when I pass one. Already losing interest in rehydrating myself.
I'm not expecting someone. I already told Rio to let the maids go home-not home home, but the house they get in the property for working here-so that only left the guys, Laswell, Theo, and Rio here. And if my men from the mafia still want their lives, they won't come by themselves and knock right at my door. Not like they know where I live, but still.
As I reached the living room, the three paused their game to look in my direction. I flashed them a smile as my gaze quickly landed on Rio, standing not too far from my brother. I walk closer to him and signal him to take care of Theo before I go to the front door.
I look through the peerhole, but no one is there. I furrowed my brow as I took out my phone from my pocket and opened the CCTV app. Only to be met with nothing. No one is hiding. I place my phone back in its place, then proceed to open the door.
It's a little after lunch time, so the outside was bright as fuck. I squinted my eyes a little to try to adjust the light that got into my retina.
After some moment, I step outside and look around the house. Left and right, making sure no one is hiding behind the bush; up on the rooftop, no one is there.
