What on earth does he want to talk to me about? Work stuff maybe. It wouldn't explain why he asked if we were friends though. I sit on a bench by the fountain.

"Go ahead, I have all day."

I respond.

It's the truth. I don't have much planned for today other than maybe going to the bakery. He sits down next to me taking a breath.

"Esmeray, are you possibly.....avoiding me? I mean, it feels like I've been seeing you less and less by the day."

He asks this, a hint of curiosity and almost...hurt in his voice.

"No, I haven't. I've just been busy."

That's a lie. I've been going out of my way to avoid him if he doesn't need me. If I were to hang out with him off duty I feel like my feelings for him would only grow. That's the last thing I need, especially with him being my boss.

"Busy with what? I haven't assigned you any orders as of late, and you haven't even really left the castle. I barely even see you leave your room."

He gives me a look that screams 'I can tell when you're lying.'

I can't escape anything with this guy can I?

"Busy helping my sister prepare for her wedding. There's also the fact that you can be a little oblivious sometimes. Either way why does it matter what I'm doing? I get I'm working for you, but it's not a reason to be all up in my business."

I say this as if it's the most obvious thing ever. Which, in my opinion, should be obvious especially to him.

He paused giving me a stern look. Either he naturally has a resting bitch face, or he didn't like the fact I called him oblivious. He poked my shoulder. It was pretty aggressive though. I let out a small 'ow'.

"You know why I care. We're best friends who act like a married couple, why wouldn't I care where you're at? I swear you're such a dummy sometimes it's ridiculous."

He rolled his eyes and looked away, his cheeks a slight hue of red. Was he embarrassed? It kinda even looked like he was meaning something more than care. Shit, I'm thinking too much into this, it's not that serious.

"Well, I'm sorry "husband" I get busy. You can't get mad at me for that. I don't get mad at you with all your 'kingy' stuff."

He sighed and looked back at me. He looked at me straight in the eyes with his gorgeous blue ones. I felt his hand brush against mine again, yet as soon as I believed it was an accident he held onto my hand. I paused, the blood rushing to my cheeks. God, this was embarrassing. Why did he randomly decide to just hold my hand?

"Can you at least promise me to spend a bit more time with me? Please?"

He gave me puppy dog eyes. I could never say no to those.

"Fine. I suppose I can try that," I let go of his hand. "But you have duties to attend to. Go do them."

He seemed hurt that I pulled my hand away and nodded, standing up. He quickly regained his usual cold attitude.

"You're very correct. I'll be going now. Don't do anything idiotic."

He walked off looking stiff.

Welp. That was that. I brushed myself off of  any dirt. I walked inside tiredly before I felt tiny hands grab my slightly larger one.

"Auntie Essy!"

I'm not really her aunt, but that's what she's been taught to call me. Oh well.

"Hey Spook."

I smiled and looked down at the small girl, as she only came up to my hip. Hunter's daughter, little Spook.

(A/N) This is all that shall be here for now. I'll work on it more dw 💪
