Karina's outfit is above!

chapter forty-three.

Karina stood inside the cemetery, and she was giving Bastianna a look of bewilderment.

"I'm sorry, come again?"

Bastianna sighed, "I want to enter an alliance with you and Ms. Bennett."

"No, I heard that part and I'll talk about it over with Bonnie, but I'm talking about the other part." Karina clarified while running a hand through her hair.

"The harvest girls haven't come to give their thanks." Bastianna told her again, "I ask for your help in getting them to understand and come around before they anger our ancestors."

Karina ran a hand down her face, "Bastianna, you lied to them for months. Of course they're not going to feel grateful, they feel betrayed and as if you're not who they believed you to be."

"I did what I must to save the community." Bastianna said, "I may not make the best choices, but for my people I'll do whatever it takes."

Karina sighed and hated how much she understood Bastianna, hated that she would play the villain if it meant keeping her friends and family safe. She knew that Bastianna would do whatever was necessary for her people, Karina was exactly the same way, didn't mean she agreed with the harvest.

The harvest was disgusting, and their ancestors were sick for making it a thing to do. There had to be another way, but until someone that wasn't so set in their ways took control of the coven, it would remain this way, unchanging.

"And you want me to what?" Karina asked, "Tell them that it was for the greater good of their coven? That they're heroes for sacrificing their lives? What? What could you possibly have me say Bastianna?"

Bastianna didn't know exactly what she was hoping for from Karina, she sighed and gave Karina a small smile. "Forget it, I will try again myself."

Karina shook her head and left the crypt, she made her way to the exit and her eyes widened when she spotted one of the harvest girls. Davina? Karina was terrible at putting names to faces that she doesn't normally interact with.

"You're the outsider witch." Davina spoke up and Karina simply stared at her. "Why are you helping them? They killed me and my friends."

Karina almost groaned in annoyance, she didn't want to deal with an emotional witch. "I don't have time for this."

"Don't ignore me." Davina shouted at her and unintentionally, her magic shot out towards Karina to stop her in place.

Karina felt Davina's magic, it was miniscule compared to her own but the fact that she had lashed out at her, had Karina turning back around with her eyes glowing red.

"I'm sorry, did you just try to use your magic on me?" Karina asked, her voice dangerously low that had Davina backing away.

She waved her hands in front of her with a panicked expression, "I didn't mean too! Since coming back, I haven't been able to control my magic..."

Karina took a deep breath and calmed herself, Davina was a child. "Because you haven't given thanks to the ancestors for bringing you back to life. Look I'm not saying what they did was good, hell even I know that the harvest is gross but while I don't agree, this isn't my coven to intervene. As long as your coven stays away from my loved ones, I won't come after them."

Davina couldn't wrap her head around this, around any of it. "Why did they do it?"

"Davina, you practice ancestral magic which means for you guys to take, you also have to give." Karina began to explain, "There might be another way, a different way that isn't sacrificing the lives of the young as a sign of faith, but until that way is found before the next harvest, this is how things shall remain."
