"I'm not a child anymore. I don't need everyone to understand me."
"Hi," I said, greeting myself to the class (which was a mix of Pokemon and humans, mostly humans. The modern era is amazing, sometimes), "I'm Mako Ebina. It's nice to meet you all." Everyone greeted me.
"You'll be sitting beside Mr. Ichibangase over there," Mrs. Yamada told me. I nodded and headed off to my desk. I minded my own business as class started, but I could tell that Ryoichiro thought that he, a Mythical, and I, a Hisuian, was a very odd sight.
As lunch came, as I was sketching something, I overheard a conversation between Ryoichiro and his Marshadow friend, Mel Takahashi.
"...so you two were under the same umbrella?" Mel said.
"Yeah, what about it?" Ryoichiro asked.
"Gotta say, Ryoichiro, for someone you just met, she seems like a perfectly fit girlfriend for you!" the Marshadow answered. I denied the hint of a relationship.
"Just because he gave me my umbrella doesn't mean anything, Takahashi-san!" I exclaimed.
"Alright, alright, jeez, I was just joking," Mel replied, "But if you need a wingman, Ryoichiro, I'm your guy."
"I don't need a wingman and I'm certainly not into her!" he shouted back.
The class after lunch was awkward. Ryoichiro and I tried not to make eye contact with each other while Mel was looking back at Ryoichiro practically the entire time, Mr. Yamaguchi constantly telling Mel to look up at the front.
Once school ended, I decided to walk home with Ryoichiro. We lived on the same street, after all.
"How come that Marshadow is the only one who talks to you?" I asked, "He seems like a real fruitcake. What was his first name, was it Mel?"
"Yeah. He's the only kid I can really get along with, I suppose," he told me, "Even if he is a troll."
"But why don't others want to talk to you?" I asked, "Or, rather, why do you not talk to others?"
"Other people and Pokémon think I'm scary," he replied, "It's probably just my laid-backness and me looking like a delinquent, though. I don't really plan on hurting anyone, even though by standards, I'm a Mythical."
"I'll bet you would never hurt anyone," I told him.
"Yeah, I wouldn't and I won't," he replied. Before we knew it, we had arrived at his house. Ryoichiro knocked, and, guess what, the Jazz Queen of the Reiwa Era opened the door.
"Ryoichiro, who is this?" She asked.
"This is Mako," he explained, introducing me, "She's my new classmate and she's the one I met under the rain yesterday."
"Nice to meet you, Ms. Ichibangase," I said to the famous musician.
"Hmm.... Seems like fate has brought you two together," Ayame said, "You know, like a romance story."
Ryoichiro and I, again, denied the relationship hints.
"I'm only J, you two," Ayame said before bringing us inside.
"She's like that," I was told by Ryoichiro, "My sis is a bit weird."
"Your house looks nice," I said, admiring it. Then I remembered our... erm, 'hang-out' time, "Oh, yeah, we're supposed to be meeting up at the park today, but I think school kind of got in the way..."
"Sis, is it alright if we go to the park later?" Ryoichiro asked Ayame.
"Sure! As long as you two are having fun together," she told him, "And as long as you take off of your school uniform, Ryoichiro."
When we did go, Ryoichiro hadn't taken off his school uniform. That freak (and I mean it lightheartedly). We got boba, and the park was peaceful.
"Could I try some of yours?" He asked me.
"Sure," I replied, handing it to him, "It's a good flavour."
He drank some, and I could tell he liked it. He gave some of his to me and it was amazing, but we ended up drinking each other's drinks... oops! It would've been a quaint nice quiet moment with me and him if Mel's older familial brother, Kazuya, hadn't walked by.
"I've heard from Mel about you two," he said.
"What did he tell you," Ryoichiro replied.
"He said something about you two having a 'love at first sight' thing," Kazuya told us, "But, to be honest, I'm not a believer of love at first sight."
"Neither am I," I replied.
"Melody is a small town," Kazuya said, "If he says anything, everyone will know. Rumours get passed on easily.""I know our town is small," Ryoichiro replied, "That's why I always tell Mel to not start anything."
The three of us talked for a little bit until it was time to go home. Kazuya said his farewells and said that it was nice meeting me. Ryoichiro invited me to sleep at his place, but I was working on a secret project at the time for him, so I couldn't. We parted later and promised to chat again tomorrow. What a day...
