Morning dinner bells ring through the air, beckoning to the tall creatures that call this place home. Doors creak open or swing with little effort, slamming into the walls as smaller, younger creatures come happily out of their dark rooms. Yet the sounds of all that's occurring, the laughing, the giggles of thanks, are all but noise to this one, small, lovable animal, who lays on the bed of a school girl. Wrapped up in the blankets, soft, and comforting, Caya lies nestled between the girl's legs, laying in a comfortable loaf next to her socked feet.
Caya stares ahead blankly, tiredly, at the bedroom door, waiting for something to happen. Her toys spread across the floor, her intricate set of crawl spaces and platforms along the wall, everything that is hers in this spacious room do not call to her this morning. The only thing she desires is her dear Marie.
Rising from her resting place, Caya lifts her tail high into a fierce stretch, arching her back down, and her paws ahead. She feels her claws extend, digging into the blanket, and she pulls back as the girl's feet flinch. Retracting her claws, Caya paws at the blanket for several minutes, waiting too for her eyes to adjust to the daylight that harshly shines through the window. A light so bright, she'd think the girl would already be awake, and feeding her at this time. But once she's done toying with the blankets, she turns around to face her lovable human. But upon the sight of Marie's blue eyes staring at her, Caya propels herself into the air with a mighty kick and a hiss, before landing on the edge of the bed and darting across the carpet to hide in the corner of the room.
"Haha! Sorry Caycay," the girl says, laughing off her moment of shock. The girl sits up, setting the blanket aside and straightening her pillow, before pursing her lips and making a series of clicks. "Come on Caycay, no need to be so jumpy. It's only me."
Caya stares at her, the girls pursed lips and gentle smile, and outstretched hands calling to her, calling for her to rejoin her owner up high, on the blissful, soft place of relaxation. Finding the sight to be more than pleasing, Caya leaps up onto the bed with pride, and walks up into Marie's lap.
"There there, Caya...I'm sorry I scared you." Her sight turns to the window, to the sun, who's rays shine in upon the blend of white and tan fur that covers Caya's body, shining and illuminating her caramel brown eyes. "I guess everyone's up right now...You must be hungry Caycay. Are you?"
Finally, the question she had been waiting for finally arrives. Though the rumble in her stomach cannot be heard, it can definitely be seen in Caya's face, a desire to eat something other than her stuffed toys and the feathers that once belonged inside Marie's pillows. A dinner bell finally rings for her, and with a happy meow, Caya makes a quick dash for the door.
With a laugh, Marie gets out of bed, wearing her somewhat pink pajamas, covered in dozens, maybe hundreds of cat hairs; distorting the design and adding splotches of Caya's appearance among the pink. As soon as her hand reaches the knob, Caya's attentive eyes remain locked onto her hand. And when it opens wide enough for her small body to fit, Caya makes a run for it. Her paws take her down the hall in the blink of an eye, as she turns and leaves her way around the couch, a bin containing more of her toys, the TV - such a strange box - and the kitchen table where the other humans sit. In the same brief moment, in the blink of an eye, Caya stops at her all too familiar set of bowls. Her only regret is not being able to eat up on high, like those that tower above her. But no matter, she will eat soon, and enjoy the attention to come once the humans are done with their own meal.
But time passes all too slowly for little Caya. In the distance she hears muffled steps, coming from Marie, who slowly strolls from her room to the kitchen. If only she could speak, she'd encourage Marie to move faster. Her stomach rumbles, this time being heard by one of the humans who sits above her.
