Milo buried his nose contently in his book as he laid back in his chair. Countless books surrounded him as he was lost in the story.
He was so focused on his book that he didn't notice another person stepping closer. That's why he let out a yelp when a hand touched his shoulder softly. The person the hand belonged to flinched back and chuckled quietly.
"I'm really sorry, but the library is about to close", the male, as Milo now could see, informed him grinning. Milo let out a curse as he remembered that he was supposed to be at home at least 3 hours ago. The librarian laughed again as he noticed how Milo was hastily putting all the books away.
"Excuse me asking, but I couldn't help but notice that you were reading Poisoned Roses just now. Are you a fan of the series?" Milo, still stacking up books for easier transport, stopped for second to really look at the other. He had messy black hair and a slightly tanned skin, was wearing an obnoxiously pink shirt and white pants. Another thing he noticed was the nametag with Clyde <3 on it. Ah, so that's his name, Milo thought.
Remembering that he was asked a question, he answered: "Oh yeah, I'm a big fan of the author. I'm currently trying to read every book they wrote, since I adore everything, they create" Clyde, smiling when Milo got more euphoric the more he said, seemed to brighten up a bit. "Oh really? I'm a big fan of their works too! What's you're favorite book?" Milo had to think about that question for a few seconds until he came to a conclusion. "It's pretty hard for me to decide which one is the best since all of their books are really good, but I guess my favorite is plants of the night. The ending is very tragic, but I feel like every other ending would've been unfitting. Oh, my name is Milo O'Brien by the way." "Clyde Crawford, its's a pleasure to meet you." Clyde stretched his arm out and they shook hands.
Milo, a bit nervous, smiled, since social interactions weren't his strong suit, but he calmed down when he saw the calming smile the other seemed to always wear.
They snapped out of the moment when Milo remembered that he was late for dinner, again, and that Layla, his sister, will kill him if he didn't get his ass over there right now.
He cursed again and said, "I'm very sorry, but I really have to go right now, or my sister will kill me for real", before quickly running away with the books in his arms. Clyde was about to tell him to wait, but Milo was long gone, leaving Clyde just awkwardly standing in the middle of the library.
He snapped out of shock when he heard a snicker. "Are you hitting on people who read your books again, Clyde?" his coworker Nari said laughing brightly. The black-haired male let out a dramatic gasp. "How would you even get that idea? I simply asked if he liked the book, nothing else." "Fine, fine, I'll let it slide just this once. And now, go move your lazy ass and clean up!" She commanded.
Clyde sighed and moved towards the room with the cleaning supplies, but shook his head when he noticed that a certain face of a cutie wouldn't leave his head.
And I don't even know if he'll be back again, damn it, he cursed in his head.
~~~*~~~
Turns out he didn't have to worry about that, since Milo was back the next day, sitting in the same place as before and just as focused as the day before.
Clyde walked towards him with a slight sense of déjà vu and looked over his shoulder to read a few sentences. "Oh, the next scene is going to be epic."
Milo screamed and jumped out of his seat. "Jesus Christ, do you have to scare me like that? I almost had a heart attack!", he grumbled. "I'm sorry, but you're just so easy to scare and I have too much fun to stop doing it.", Clyde explained himself smugly.
