History of Kingdom: Chiwoo

Chiwoo knew he would die soon. He had been injured in a harsh battle against the forces of evil, and he was conscious that he didn't have much time left. He didn't want to die, but then again, who would? But he had to accept his fate. He had to make someone carry out his mission for him, he didn't want all his efforts to go to waste.

The king sighed, feeling a little bit lonely on this gloomy day of September. He hadn't many friends, and he spent most of his days alone in this very room, sitting quietly, his only company being his thoughts. He found it important to take a lot of time to relax and empty his mind, so it was a sort of ritual for him to stay in this room and meditate a little bit every day.

The room was small, though big enough to hold a small tree, and him. He often sat in front of it, almost hoping it would reach out to him and talk to him, hear his thoughts, help him. Of course, Chiwoo knew it was absurd and that a tree couldn't speak nor hear his thoughts, but he still had a tiny bit of hope that someone, anyone up there could hear his silent pleas to the world.

He stayed in this special room a lot more now that he was injured, he spent every hour of every day in there. He didn't sleep either, trying to remember a special trick his grandfather had taught him. The only problem was, he couldn't remember how to do it at all. He remembered seeing his grandfather do it, yes, but at the time, he was too young and thought it would be irrelevant to use.

Chiwoo's guards along with his servants were worried for him; he spent a lot more time on his own than ever before. Everybody rarely saw him in the castle, and anyone who came to offer him something to eat, he would snap and shut them out.

King Chiwoo couldn't empty his mind today.

He was so close to his goal, so incredibly close, but he wouldn't be able to live to see his mission succeed.

It was only when someone walked into the room that Chiwoo got pulled out of his thoughts, opening his eyes to see the singular tree in the room standing tall in front of him.

"Yes?" Chiwoo spoke, sounding somewhat bored and irritated. He kept his back turned to the one who dared bother his precious time.

"King Arthur is dead," the other spoke, his voice quiet and strained. Chiwoo's eyes widened, then turned his head around to lock eyes with the intruder.

"How?" he spoke, surprise lacing his voice as he struggled to get up from his kneeling position. His entire body ached, but he learned in the last few days to endure it. The poison spread in his body very slowly, making every day more painful than the last.

"He fought against the demons. He... ended his own life," the other man spoke, finding it hard to speak the words. He felt like it was forbidden to even talk about his old friend this way. The man felt too many emotions at once: guilt, sadness, but also a bit of relief. He didn't know why he felt relieved, though. Couldn't put his finger on it.

Chiwoo's gaze seemed to soften as he stepped closer to the other person, opening his arms and inviting him in a gentle hug. The other accepted the offer, wrapping his arms around the king of clouds.

"I'm sorry, I know you two were friends," Chiwoo spoke, his voice sounding soft for what seemed like the first time in his life. Chiwoo wasn't one to show vulnerability. To show weakness. He was strong... Well, he had been, once. Both kings stayed quiet for a moment.

Chiwoo felt sad for the other. Sad, but also glad that his enemy was out of the way. It felt weird, he never really felt sadness. He knew though, that he shouldn't mention how pleased he was of the other king's death. Chiwoo sighed; maybe he could ask the other for help... maybe he knew about this special trick he constantly racked his brain to remember.

He couldn't help the words that escaped his lips next.

"But... you know, maybe it's a good thing he died," Chiwoo spoke, making the other man tense up slightly. "Now we can be allies," he finished, smiling slightly. The other man didn't have to be on both sides anymore, now that Arthur was out of the way.

The two pulled away from the hug, though Chiwoo's hands stayed on the other man's shoulders. The other looked at Chiwoo in the eyes, worry and sadness evident in his own.

"You can help me, I don't have much time left to live," Chiwoo's words were quiet, his gaze almost looked desperate. The other looked at the King of Clouds curiously, his head tilting to the side slightly and making him look almost... adorable. He knew about Chiwoo's mission, and he wanted to help him.

"There's this old trick my grandfather showed me..." Chiwoo started, explaining to the other man what the trick was all about. It was a rather distant memory, but he remembered some distinct parts. It was a bit blurry... He found he wasn't making any sense as the words spilled out of his mouth.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I don't think I really know what you're talking about," the man replied, a sorry frown on his face. He wasn't very good at magic; spying was more his thing.

Chiwoo was quiet for a moment, gazing at a random point on the man's jacket, his brows knitted together.

"Then you can take over my mission," the King of Clouds suddenly said, a newfound determination noticeable in his eyes. "Then I don't have to figure out how to do this stupid trick anymore. Please, Jahan,"

Jahan shook his head. He was more of a follower than a leader, in all honesty. He liked doing things in the shadows, not being the spotlight.

"I don't think it's a good idea, Chiwoo.."

"Please," the King of Clouds repeated. He was desperate and right on the brink of death. "I need you. You're my only hope."

"I don't want to. I can't," Jahan spoke, his voice barely above a whisper. He felt a pit in his stomach for refusing, but it just wasn't something he wanted to do. Something he could do. He felt like he would be betraying Arthur by helping the other king fill out his mission. Chiwoo sighed, his arms falling down to his sides.

"Fine," Chiwoo said, nodding. "I'll find something else." He spoke in a reluctant tone; he didn't really have any other idea, and his time was running out quicker than he would like to.

-

That night, Jahan returned to his kingdom, guilt eating at him for not saving his friend Arthur a few days prior, as well as for not being able to help Chiwoo in carrying out his mission. His mind simply could not muster to betray Arthur, even though he wasn't alive anymore.

Chiwoo returned to his chambers, walking out on his balcony and looking up at the starry night sky. He closed his eyes, focusing on his power and blowing into his hand gently. A crystal orb formed out of his breath, and he put both hands under it as it divided into three.

It was a trick he found out he could do; he had been using this for a long time.

He spoke a quiet message to it, the orbs absorbing his words and taking them for themselves, ready to be delivered. He gently blew at them, the brightly glowing orbs flying out to their receivers. He sighed, hoping that the message would reach its receivers soon... Hopefully by the next morning.

He stayed there for a while; he hadn't stargazed in a very long time. After getting injured, he forgot about everything else that didn't concern his mission and how to bring it afoot.

And then, by about 10 in the evening, he went to bed, feeling his body weaken more and more by the hour. The exhaustion soon took over his body and let him fall into a deep slumber, to which he didn't know he would never wake up from.

What he didn't know either, was that the gods had heard him, and they had sent him someone to help him out, even in his death.

That night, in a farther kingdom, one where storm always reigned, a new ruler was born. He came down from the skies, brought to Earth in a swirl of dark, rumbling clouds, lightening zipping around him. Hwon, the new King of Storm, had been born, ready to keep Chiwoo's precious mission on track.
