The group and I had been trekking through the vast woods for about thirty minutes. We've had zero luck with finding Tyler. I was starting to grow anxious the longer it took for us to even get a lead on where he might have fallen.
I fidget with the black bow in my hands as we walk past thick trees and bushes. I suddenly feel a hand squeeze my shoulder and I look over to see Logan with an uneasy smile. He looked like he was on the verge of vomiting.
As we walk, a looming cliff appears not far ahead. I speed up a bit, passing by the others. I recognized the cliff to be the one Tyler fell off of.
"Wait! Y/N-" Ashlyn's voice trails off as I brush past some branches.
But I quickly stop in my tracks when a cold shiver runs through my skin. The air around me grows tense. I slow my walk and glance around for any sign of trouble. I then hear an agonized grunt, followed by the creaking of wood.
I pull an arrow out from the quiver resting on my back and draw my bow. I cautiously head toward the noise. There I spot a phantom rushing for a large trunk sticking out of the ground. My eyes follow up until they land on Tyler's body pierced right through it.
The peak of the trunk stuck right through his torso, which was bleeding uncontrollably. Tyler's arms and face were covered in blood as well. His whimpers and groans only intensified every time his body move just slightly.
I almost drop my bow until the footsteps of the phantom bring me back to the reality of the situation. I hear Tyler choke up some blood and gasp.
"Tyler!!" I shout over at him, causing him to stop struggling.
I draw my bow back and shoot the arrow right into the phantom's head. It's only enough to stun it temporarily. I rush over to Tyler and my heart stops when he looks down at me with fearful eyes.
"Y-Y/N..." He gasps out, holding himself up by the branch sticking out underneath him.
My hands nervously hover over by the tree trunk, unsure of where to even start. I then hear Ashlyn grunt from behind me as she sends a high kick straight for the phantom's face, finishing what I had started and knocking it out cold.
She calls the others over while I hold Tyler's head up to ease the pain. I brush his damp hair away from his eyes, watching the way his pupils dilate abnormally. He continues to inhale sharply, trying his best not to scream in pain.
"Shh, shh. We're gonna get you down, alright?"
Moments later, we set up the ladder we had brought with us and lean it against the sharp trunk Tyler was stuck on. Ashlyn shakily hands me the syringe aimed to put Tyler to sleep. It was best for him to be unconscious while we pulled him out.
I grab onto the sides of the ladder, but Ashlyn grabs my arm to stop me, "A-Are you sure you can do this...?"
By the weariness in her voice, I knew I was the only one that could. I nod and make my way up to the top, where I am now at Tyler's level. My breath hitches at the sight from up close. His face lacked color and was splattered with his own blood. More of it seeped through his torso, staining his suit.
"Okay...Tyler? Don't worry...w-we're going to help you..." I say and bring the syringe up to his limp arm. I try my best to stop my hand from shaking, not wanting to inject the sedative in the wrong spot.
Tyler coughs up, "Y/N..."
I shut my eyes and grimace at the way he says my name so weakly. He slowly raises his arm up and grips my bicep, steadying me.
He musters a small smile, which is quickly replaced by a wince as his body moves slightly. I use his distraction as an opportunity to inject the fluid into his system. In a matter of seconds, his shaking body goes limp before me. I let out a relived sigh, glad to know he was no longer feeling any pain right now.
