July 5, 7:30AM. The beginning of the murders.

The Elyxiens were known for a lot of things, and our reputation differed towards certain sides. One was a multimillion factory, giving birth to tycoons, and the other was a family who simply emblematized the idea of fraud and getting away with it. It really didn't affect my siblings nor the current heads, as publicity was still publicity. From pump and dumps to monopolizing lands under rent contracts, our crime count was endless. We didn't care how the news perceived us. The government did, however, and at one point when I was 17, they launched a full investigation as to how we gained such wealth. None was found, according to the public, but in the conversations my mother shared with the chief officer, she bribed him and the other staff. Only one person refused to accept the bribe and just left, and he went by the name of Laurent Siegfried. He didn't taint our name even if he was aware of our sin, and it was safe to say we came out clean due to our little tip. Our reputation shortly restored itself to its past glory once more, and this wasn't just a one-time occurrence. This happened countless of times, and when I finally turned 24, I got used to lying right in front of everyone's faces and putting on a pitiful demeanour.

We scammed people, and we faked it till we made it. I completely understand why someone would suddenly decide to eliminate us and countless of other shady millionaires. We first heard of the news when Grandfather Andrew, the current asset holder of all belongings within the Elyxien name, receive a call from his assistant at 5:23AM on July 2, that an old friend of his was dead. Usually, he'd brush it off. He was old, and naturally, all his peers would be as well. But Mike, his co business partner and closest friend, was murdered.

Grandfather was not a paranoid man. He had not been in a long time, ever since he got security. Ever since he gotten a son. Ever since he had other meat shields as grandchildren. No, he wasn't paranoid. Until now, on July 7, 7:30 AM. He called every single one of us over. My mom, my aunt and her husband, and all of their kids lived in the same house alongside Grandfather. It was an extremely nice place, with modern dark furnishings, greenery, and pine trees surrounding the mansion. 4 floors, with chandeliers and expensive paintings everywhere, not to mention the garage and pools. Simply put, it was a paradise. (I think the best part of the mansion was the shower, with water and light mimicking misty rain from above.)

We were all seated in the dining room, with Grandfather seated in the top right, then his children on his right and left going farther until it finally reached to my seat. It was on the far left, along with Aurora and Daniel, both older than me. I tap my thigh by a certain tune, a little bored. Once we all settled down, did he finally begin to speak.

"You are all aware of Mike's death, yes?" We nod quickly, and I fight the urge to yawn from exhaustion.

"Then this will be fast. I believe the murderer will go for us next."

One moment passes, then another. After a few more seconds, does my mother finally speak up to break the silence.

"And how are you so sure of that? Perhaps it is just a threat to us with no actual action." What a woman she is, to doubt his word that would be taken as truth. I watch her hand slightly clench.

"He killed Mike. He was on the first of the list. I am next on there."

"We can enforce our security."

"He had security as well, child. Dozens of them, yet he was still murdered all the same."

"But that's....well.."
