Chapter 23 I'll Wait For You

They walked along a secluded beach, the soft whisper of the waves and the distant call of seabirds creating a tranquil atmosphere. The sand beneath Kusoma’s feet was warm and inviting, and Samaya, still perched on his shoulder, gazed around in awe. The sun was beginning to set, casting a golden glow over the horizon and painting the sky with hues of orange and pink.

As they ambled along, something sparkling caught Samaya’s eye. It gleamed invitingly from within the sand, catching the sunlight in a mesmerizing way. Intrigued, she tried to climb down from Kusoma’s shoulder, but her excitement made her slip. Fortunately, Kusoma’s reflexes were sharp, and he caught her leg, leaving her dangling upside down from his grip.

Kusoma looked at her, amusement dancing in his eyes. "You could tell me if you wanted to get down," he said, his tone teasing.

Blushing furiously, Samaya held her clothes in place, her face red with embarrassment. Kusoma snickered softly before gently lowering her to the ground. As soon as her feet touched the sand, she hurried to her feet and sprinted towards the sparkling object.

Reaching the spot, she bent down to examine it more closely. It was a beautiful shell, its surface iridescent and shimmering with all the colors of the rainbow. Nearby, she spotted another shell, equally beautiful. Her eyes sparkled with delight as she realized there might be more hidden treasures buried in the sand.

Samaya eagerly set to work, gathering the shells with the enthusiasm of a child. Kusoma watched her for a moment, a soft smile playing on his lips. He found this playful, innocent side of her endearing. Bending down beside her, he asked, "What are you doing?"

Samaya looked up at him, her eyes shining with excitement. "I’m gathering shells," she said, holding up her arms to show him her treasures. The shells glinted in the fading light, each one more beautiful than the last.

Kusoma chuckled, finding her delight infectious. "You look so happy," he remarked, his voice gentle. "I’ll let you play a little longer."

He stood up, his expression becoming more serious. "I’m going out to hunt, but I won’t be far. If anything happens, scream for me."

Samaya nodded with a bright smile. "Okay," she agreed, then turned back to her task, her fingers digging eagerly into the sand.

Kusoma watched her for a moment longer before walking towards the ocean, his footsteps leaving deep impressions in the sand. He disappeared into the waves, leaving Samaya alone on the beach.

She continued her treasure hunt, her fingers sifting through the warm, gritty sand. Each shell she found was more beautiful than the last, with intricate patterns and stunning colors. Some were a deep, rich blue, like the ocean at twilight. Others were a soft, pearly white, glistening like moonlight on water. She marveled at the delicate pinks and vibrant purples, the spirals and ridges that adorned each one.

The beach was a treasure trove, and Samaya felt like an explorer discovering a hidden world. She found a shell shaped like a star, its points sharp and perfect. Another was shaped like a tiny cup, its edges smooth and inviting. She held each one up to the light, watching as the setting sun made them glow.

Time seemed to stand still as she worked, the sound of the waves and the feel of the sand creating a peaceful rhythm. She was so absorbed in her task that she almost forgot about Kusoma’s warning. But she felt safe, knowing he was nearby, ready to protect her if needed.
