Saumya sighed, rubbing her temple in frustration.
Her sisters were at odds once more, and she—— miles away from them in Australia—— was having to bear the brunt of Svetlana's anger and her mother's rage.
She glanced at her cellphone and bit her lower lip—— don't cry! Don't. Cry.
She blinked rapidly to keep the tears at bay.
"Chotu?" Saumya startled, pressing the heels of her palm on both eyes, before pivoting on her heels quickly, and turning around to face Dushyant to held baby Aryaan in his arms.
A small smile appeared on Saumya's face as her nephew extended his arms with a pout and a frown which melted her heart.
"Come here, little Peanut," Saumya chuckled as Aryaan wrapped his arms around her neck and jumped into her arms.
"How come you adore your aunt more than your own father?" Dushyant faked a grumpy frown at Aryaan who giggled.
"I'm his favourite," Saumya shrugged. "Hain na?" She booped baby Aryaan's nose, grinning as the child babbled incoherently.
"Chotu?" Dushyant looked at her with a worried frown, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, Jeej," Saumya shook her head, the relaxed smile morphing into a tight one as she looked at Aryaan who placed his hands on her cheeks and pushed them together.
"Saumya," Dushyant arched an eyebrow at her pointedly.
Exhaling a sigh, Saumya handed her nephew back to Dushyant despite the squirming as Aryaan tried to go back to her.
"Svetlana Di is snappy nowadays," Saumya shrugged. "Neither Tia Di nor I can figure out the exact reason why." She looked up at the ceiling, digging her nails into her palms. "And M-Mom called."
She glanced at Dushyant to see him stiffening, "Oh." He cleared his throat, shuffling his feet in discomfort. "I see."
Saumya observed her brother-in-law quietly.
She'd grown up watching the childhood love between Dushyant and Tia blossom over the years. From the constant bickering to their soft and sweet love—— she'd watched each and every moment between the two.
Her sister and brother-in-law's love story had been what had made her wish to fall in love with a friend—— her closest friend.
Friendships served as the basis of all healthy relationships—— she paused, rolling her eyes internally—— or at least, that is what she'd heard.
She exhaled a sigh.
She'd believed that she'd found some semblance of that.
With Rudra.
Rudra Singh Oberoi.
She snorted, prompting Dushyant to look at her in confusion.
She shook her head.
Her eldest sister had given up everything to be the mistress of an unfaithful and insecure Oberoi.
