Brone's POV
At every moment, the Maleficent power of the black mamba was right behind my eyes, every time I closed them, I could see it hissing at me. Always angry, always hungry. Azul dancing bewitched the snake, who would stop feeling and simply watch, becoming transfixed by her movements. When she danced, I had the briefest moments of peace from the monster soldered to my soul with lightning.
"How do these feel?" Doctor Mellow gives me a pair of wood crutches with soft tops for under my arms. I lean on the left side where my heavy and twisted leg doesn't bend for me, the knee joint was completely shattered and healed all wrong. Damion junior found me a spare pair of brown trousers with pockets that I could use too, including a loose shirt.
I look to Azul and nod my response, she answers for me.
"Brone think's the crutches are a good fit," Azul glances to Damion junior, who approves too.
"Now we make our way to the Clandestine Library, that's were Soren and Fanguard will be waiting with the Cren and Mirat," Damion junior walks on my left and Azul moves to my right.
"Don't you be fighting anymore monsters," Doctor Mellow scolds Damion and he just shrugs.
"It's what I do best! See you, Doc!" Damion tries to leave but I lock eyes with the Doctor and I don't budge.
"Hey," I whisper, my voice still scratchy and whispery, I hate it and prefer not to speak, but this is important, "You should bow respectfully to your King," I warn the Doctor once as I nod toward Damion.
Her hand flutters to her chest as she looks to Damion and slowly shakes her head, "I... don't understand what he's implying."
Damion looks to me and I reach out my hand to point to his finger.
Didn't he realise what it meant?
"It has to be formally announced," Azul says quietly to us all, while seeing Damion's confused expression.
"Is that the Ring of Mal?" Doctor Mellow steps back, "How did you attain that?"
"I... earnt it, when I saved Azul and Brone from the Monster Lands" Damion junior explains, "Don't tell anyone else just yet, Doctor."
"I won't," she whispers and smiles, "What a brave young man you are."
"Heh," Damion quickly moves out of the infirmary, his cheeks flaring with a sudden blush. I follow him out with Azul at my side. She's also borrowed a plain day dress; her long curly black hair is loose. She was trying to blend in with everyone else but she never would. She had very bright purply-blue eyes, like a mermaid. That's how I liked to think of her, anyway. I don't think she ever understood how beautiful she was. Even Damion junior was immediately bewitched by her. But she was also kind – even with Mal-born eyes.
"You weren't kidding?" Damion junior asks me, falling back in step with my slightly slower movements. I shake my head and he adds, "I don't know... to be honest, I don't know how Mirat will accept hearing that."
"Kill him then," I suggest and my whisper is heard loud and clear.
Damion looks shocked, I just smile – he was still unaware of the presence he carried. He was a leader.
"I'll handle it," Damion leads the way again, "Remember, no one can know you're the Mal – or you'll never be able to grow up normally. It's a good thing it's been centuries, you're a new face around here, Brone.
"Do we tell them who I am?" Azul asks.
"They know," Damion explains, "Your statue is everywhere, artists have your likeness down. So, we can't hide your identity. But it's okay, you're revered, they know you bewitch the Mal – that means you're royalty."
