Barbara and Dahlia had gone out many times since they had begun spending so much time together, but had never gone anywhere romantic like a date.
After the initial shock wore off from their previous confessions, the two began to feel the same butterflies in their stomach whenever they saw one another again, but neither of them dared to make any bold moves. It seemed as if something was restraining them from doing so, perhaps the eyes of Lord Barbatos and their commitment to the church.
The next day at school, Barbara and Dahlia were walking side by side through the hallways. They shared a knowing glance, causing a small smile to spread on their faces and butterflies to flutter wildly in their chests. As they reached their lockers, Dahlia leaned up against hers blocking it and looked at her, admiring her with a cute smirk.
Barbara blushed lightly and gave a nervous laugh. "What?" she asked nervously. "Nothing, just..." His eyes were fixed on hers, leaning forward towards her. "...just looking at how adorable you are. You're such an angel." He spoke lovingy. The tips of Barbara's ears were bright red and her blush intensified.
Before Barbara could say anything else, Dahlia giggled childishly and gave her a quick playful kiss. "Bye Barb!" Dahlia chirped, running to his classroom before she could react.
Barbara immediately checked around frantically to see if anyone saw, becoming quite flustered. "Goodness gracious! How could he be so careless! What would he do if someone thought we were in a relationship?" She fretted internally to herself, rushing to her classroom.
When she entered, she saw Lumine there waiting for her. "Where have you been?! I've been waiting here for like forever!!" Lumine exclaimed as she slammed her books onto her desk, a wide smile on her face.
Barbara stood beside her chair and placed a gentle hand on her arm. "I'm sorry Lumine... I got caught up chatting with a friend." Barbara apologised, giving her friend a sheepish expression.
Lumine raised her brows. "Oh, it's Dahlia, right? I'm not surprised! He is really cute isn't he?" She smirked, winking at her friend. Barbara let out an embarrassed chuckle as she shook her head. "W-Well… you know we're only good friends..." she murmured. "Ohhh yeah right. But if you need any advice…" Lumine started.
Barbara chuckled nervously, her cheeks heating up and her eyes widening. "I-I can assure you! He's just a classmate, no need to worry." She whispered. Lumine gave her a teasing wink. "Mhm…" She hummed. "Whatever you say.." She teased.
Barbara's face reddened, as she turned to face the opposite direction, attempting to hide the embarrassment that was clearly evident upon her face.
Once classes were over for the day, Barbara walked into an empty prayer room. There were several pews and benches in the middle of the room, and a large cross hung on the wall above them with candles positioned around it, casting flickering shadows against the walls of the room.
Seeming as no one else was present in the room, Barbara made her way towards the center of the room, kneeling before one of the cross pews. She bowed her head in front of the cross and closed her eyes.
"Oh father Barbatos, what should I do... ?" She asked quietly, hoping he'd give some kind of answer. "I love him, Father Barbatos.. but I vowed to be a deaconess of the church. I can't break my oaths.." she explained. "He's my best friend.. but I wish to marry him, I want to love him" She pleaded out loud.
After a moment of silence, the sound of footsteps caught Barbara's attention. She opened her eyes with a light gasp without looking behind her. "Oh Barbara...it appears your prayers have been answered." A familiar male voice whispered. She turned slowly to face him, the sight making her heart race uncontrollably.
"Dahlia..!" She whispered. "How long have you been standing there?" She asked worriedly. "Long enough...but you didn't need to get down on your knees, Barbara." He replied softly.
Barbara stood up, placing her hands on his chest. "I-I didn't think anyone would be in here at such a time, I-" She stammered, biting her lip nervously. "It's alright, there was no one coming this way. I only came to see you, my dear~" Dahlia assured her with a romantic tone at the end of his reply.
His eyes softened as he gazed at her affectionately, his hand gently touching her cheek. Barbara sighed, "...Thank Barbatos it wasn't any one of our classmates who heard my pleading" she mumbled. Dahlia chuckled slightly. "Well, thank God I showed up then.." he remarked, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.
"But Barb, we don't have to hide our feelings for one another from everyone." He said, "If we agree to one day marry eachother as deacon and deaconess, we could continue our roles in the church. After all, we're still just kids. Surely they can permit our relationship if we are both members of the clergy and vow to be faithful to one another?" He asked, glancing away and smiling softly at the ceiling before turning back to meet her gaze once more.
A puzzled look came over her, "Really..?" she asked. Dahlia gave a loving smile as confirmation, and Barbara nodded eagerly and grabbed his hand, pulling him closer to her with excitement. "Of course! Ohh, Dahlia! Of course I will marry you!" She grinned happily.
Dahlia giggled softly, "We will ask your father for his approval soon, and if all goes well, we can date eachother until marriage, hehe!" he stated with a cute grin on his face. Barbara blushed faintly as she giggled, holding onto his hand tightly.
Barbara's worries and concerns had long faded away at the simple thought of gaining her father's blessing for her to be with Dahlia as a deaconess. Her thoughts drifted towards all sorts of scenarios that may possibly play out in her future with the boy she loved, and she could not help but hope that everything may work out perfectly for her.
"So then, Barbara! Please don't hesitate to tell me the next time you're free. Maybe we can go somewhere romantic~" Dahlia purred, wrapping his free hand behind her back and pulling her closer to him.
Barbara nodded with blush covering her cheeks, "O-Of course! Haha...." She replied with a sweet giggle, unable to believe that she had managed to find such a faithful and loving boyfriend as Dahlia.
The next day, Barbara and Dahlia were standing together while holding hands outside of the church. "So you really do have feelings for eachother! I knew it!" Lumine teased the couple. "Can't say we didn't see that one coming!" Paimon added with a smug expression. Barbara and Dahlia laughed, looking at eachother.
"Yes, but we still need my father's blessing before we're able to officially court, so we can't have anyone spreading any rumours!" Barbara reminded her, with a quiet yet playful tone, "I trust you, Lumine." She added. "Your secret is safe with me! But seriously, though, you should've told me sooner that you two are an item!" Lumine declared excitedly, throwing her arms into the air and laughing joyously.
As they laughed together, Barbara couldn't help but glance over at her adorable boyfriend Dahlia every now and again. In fact, she kept staring at him with a lovestruck expression in her eye. Dahlia smiled brightly in return while chatting with the others, and Barbara felt herself blush more intensely as she tried to calm her racing heart and steady her breathing.
'I must be blessed to have found someone like him.' She thought to herself while smiling softly. At the same moment, Dahlia glanced over to her again, 'Oh Lord Barbatos, I am so lucky to have this wonderful girl by my side.. I love her dearly.' He thought to himself with a slight smirk.
The couple thought of eachother while they watched their classmates talk, exchanging knowing glances. They looked forward to the day when they would finally become official, silently praying for their love to last forever. The two held hands tightly as they stood there enjoying the warm sun that illuminated them, their hearts intertwined.
