DAMIAN POV
I tossed my phone onto the passenger seat and shifted the gear, pulling away from my house. Its been fifteen minutes into the drive when I noticed something odd in my rearview mirror. A dark sedan had pulled in behind me , maintaining a steady distance. At first , I dismissed it as a coincidence – a driver heading in the same direction. But as I turned into the different road, the sedan followed the suit, its headlights glaring in my mirror.
"shit! Why are you following me?" I muttered, glancing nervously at the rearview mirror. "this is not the kind of night I planned for."
A slight unease crept over me. I signaled and changed lanes, trying to shake off the tail. The sedan kept its distance but did not veer off. Two more cars had joined the parade, forming a line of pursuit behind me.. "now, this can't be a coincidence". I sped up, trying to test waters. The lead car responded by accelerating as well. I tried another tactic—driving through a series of convoluted backstreets and making abrupt changes in the direction. The cars followed closely, though their formation beginning to falter slightly.
"come on, seriously?" I muttered, frustration lacing my voice . " how many of you are there? What is this, a parade?". I headed towards the industrial district, where the streets were less populated and offered more opportunities to maneuver . I wove through alleys and took sharp corners , finally the lead car was struggling to keep up with my erratic path .
"finally," I said, catching my breath. "maybe I can get away from this after all." But as soon as I began to relax , I saw the reflection of flashing lights up ahead . "I am in no mood to play chase", I muttered, shifting gears and taking a sudden exit. " this night just keeps getting... better."
Finally, I noticed the cars behind me were falling further away. My breath came in ragged bursts as I slowed down, allowing myself a moment of peace. "it seems I have managed to shake them off."
I checked my wristwatch – an hour had already passed since I was supposed to meet Agnes. "she might be worried." I reached for my phone. Just when I dialed her number , the dark sedan reappeared in front of me , cutting off my path. I slammed on my brakes, coming to a sudden stop. Two figures emerged from the sedan and approached my car.
Before I could react or even fully comprehendthe situation, everything went dark.
