Paedyn's pov (Lauren Roberts characters)

Paedyn

All the eyes in the room were staring shocked at me. Cold blood was running through my veins while I only felt dread in my head. The Queen. I'm about to be the queen. This is worse that I, we, could even imagine. Torturing me, killing me is not enough for him. He wants everything. My life, my future, he wants to be my doom.

He wants me to be his wife.

I can feel his thoughts. I can hear his heart breaking. His breath is so slow that it makes me worry. I look at him out of the corner of my eye. My Kai. I can see under the mask he is wearing. The pain in those eyes is too much to handle so I look back to the king, the stranger in front of me, the guy I used to know. I won't give him the power of making me feel powerless even though I am. I straighten my spine staring into his eyes.

He is not as good as his brother at hiding emotions. I can spot doubt in his eyes, hands closed in fists, he can barely keep my gaze.

He don't want this.

That's even worse. Married to someone who hates me, and will hate me forever. Forced with someone who will catch the first occasion to kill me, making me dead like someone normal, someone ordinary, not letting me die while fighting for what I believe in.

He wouldn't allow it. A voice in my head suddenly makes these thoughts slow down. His voice, always there to calm me. He would get me out of this, I just need to ask. He would handle every consequence just to keep me face. I need him closer. I need to squeeze one of his hands in mines, just to feel safer. Just to feel a little bit at home.

'Everyone out' the king's voice thunders in the room 'I want just the Enforcer and my fiancè in here'. He spat out those words, one with more disgust than the other.

The room quickly emptied, wrapped in a silence full of tension. Kitt's eyes aimed at his brother.

'Something you need to tell me, Enforcer?'

The cold words made Kai change his mask into something darker, scarier.

'Nothing, Your Majesty'

'Then why, the one who should be the best of my mens, has come back so late and so hurt?'

They just don't look like brothers anymore. Kitt's eyes, the king's eyes, are now so similar to his father's. The father who hurt Kai so much. There are no longer any traces of the love that bound them.

'As I sad, Your Majesty,' He said, contemptuously using the new title of the man in front of him, 'unforeseen circumstances.'

'I should make you notice that nothing like this ever happened with the king before me'. He is nervous. I can't get why. I'm not focused enough to understand why he is talking like this. I only know that he is getting mad at Kai for how I see it.

I turn my eyes at my partner, my enemy, the man I so badly love. He knows that something is not right. He lowered his head.

He fears that any protest he makes will have repercussions on me.

I bite the inside of my cheek trying to not cry at that sign of love feeling the tears ready to run down my eyes.

Pretending.

The king is walking down the platform under his throne to face his Enforcer. A shiver ran down my spine making me tremble.

Bad moment. Bad choice.

Green eyes are now staring at me, Kai's face covered by a broken mask from which the terror transpires. A macabre and hoarse laugh escapes from the king's throat.

'Is it too cold for you in here killer? Or maybe you just realized what happened minutes ago. I heard that Ordinaries are not that intelligent.' The smile on his face don't reach his eyes.

I know he can see anger in my eyes. Brutal words ran out of my mouth before I could stop them. Before I could think to show myself submitted.

'Maybe I should remind you that your feelings towards an ordinary fool led to your father's death'

I can barely react when Kitt's punch hits my cheek, making me bleed. I fell on my side, his vision blurred from the blow. Before I can get up he is on me. The sword he kept on the side is on my neck.

'Stop it'

Kai's voice is full of cold anger. His hands are already on the daggers in his belt. He is scared for me. Terrified that something could happen before he can react. Ready to abandon the farce to save myself.

Kitt's eyes became even angrier but his sword got off my neck. As fast as a thunder the blade was into his brother's chest.

'Don't you ever try to tell me what to do again. And from now on treat me like you treated my father. Respect my orders and my deadlines' He doesn't look Kai in the eyes but I do. He is staring at his king, the brother that he used to know. I can feel his heart breaking in a thousand pieces while he places a hand on his wound.

'Go get treatment. And take the liar with you.'

Kitt has his back to us, so I don't waste any second when I grab Kai's arm to guide him out of here.

As soon as we cross the door I guide him through a deserted corridor, before they come to search us. I close my hands on his face and I can see tears falling from his eyes. He closes the distance between us holding me in his arms while I hold him in mine.
