Rosewood, Pennsylvania
July 4th, 2009.

An invite to the parties in Rosewood was part of the average teen ritual, especially parties held on the 4th. To be invited was to be seen, to be noticed. Especially when you were invited by someone popular or older. But it couldn't just be any party...it had to be the party. These parties were usually held by Eric Kahn, Jason DiLaurentis, Ian Thomas, Trixie Martin, and/or Luca James.

These were the parties every teen wanted to attend and once you did, you'd forever be changed. Or at least that was the bullshit everyone told you. And Alora James was always invited due to the fact her brother held said parties and because people actually liked her. She didn't completely get why because she had no feelings whatsoever toward them, but a party was a party.

Which was why she stood in the Rosewood Mall with Malakai Walsh on her trail. Ever since she'd found him crying alone in an empty hall because he'd been outed by the girl everyone hated most, Alora had been looking out for him. He was a year younger than her which made her even more vulnerable to his eager personality.

Malakai twirled a velvet scarf around his fingers as Alora skimmed through the blouses. "Wait, what are we even looking for? I thought you weren't going."

"Well, I've changed my mind."

He squinted his eyes at the girl, "How'd you even score me an invite?"

Alora smirked, looking up at the boy she wouldn't even yet call a friend. "Please, I'm Alora James."

Malakai chuckled at her response, knowing every answer she gave had to be five words or less. In almost a second, his eyes lit up as they stared over her shoulder. He subtly attempted to clear his throat as two older guys approached them.
