Ava's pov
My hands trembled, as i packed my guitar and music sheets into my bag. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. Today was the day of the welcoming program for newcomers and i was scheduled to perform a solo. Kiada my rival and fellow musician was doing everything in her might to make me piss, first of all I was nervous and she was making it worse.
"Ava, I don't think you're ready for this," Kiada said, hovering around her. "You're going to mess up in front of everyone. Why don't you let me sing instead". My heart raced at the suggestion. I had been preparing for this moment for weeks, and i wasn't about to let Kiada's words get the best of me.
"Mam, I don't think Ava is going to do it," Kiada said, turning to our music teacher, who was supervising the preparations. Mrs. Jenkins, looked at me with concern. "Ava, are you feeling okay? You can always back out if you're not feeling confident."
I took a deep breath and shook her head. "No, Mam, I'm totally fine I can do this". But as i said the words, i couldn't shake off the feeling of uncertainty that had been building up inside me. What if i really did mess up? What if i forgot the lyrics or played the wrong chords?
But I ignored them and i stood tall, looking Kaida straight in the eye. "You don't have to worry about me, Kaida I can manage Maybe you should worry about yourself you might mess up." I said, my voice firm but with a hint of nervousness.
Kaida just grinned and walked away, leaving me feeling a mix of emotions. Despite my confident words, i couldn't shake off the feeling of fear that had settled in my stomach. This was a big day, and I knew that my performance could make or break my chances of getting a recommendation letter from my teachers.
As I was sitting down on the chair trying to calm down, shopia came up to me and noticed how nervous I was and tried to calm me down. "Hey, Ava, you'll do great! Just relax and enjoy the moment."
But even Sophia seemed nervous, fidgeting with her dance costume. Sophia was the best dancer in the whole college known for her mesmerizing moves and graceful fluidity. Her talent was undeniable, and i had always been in awe of my friend's ability to convey emotions through dance.
Sophia's dance style was a unique blend of contemporary and hip-hop, with a hint of ballet. She had a way of telling stories through her movements, making the audience feel every emotion she portrayed. Her performances were always captivating, leaving the audience spellbound and wanting more.
As I watched Sophia warm up, i felt a surge of determination. I was going to give my best performance, just like Sophia always did. Shopia took a deep breath, mentally preparing herself for the big moment ahead.
"Hey, Shopia, I'm fine," Ava said, trying to reassure her friend. "Your performance is next, so go get ready! Don't worry about me, today is your day to shine. And remember, I'll always support you."
Shopia looked at Ava with a hint of concern, but Ava's words seemed to ease her mind. "Yeah, I'll be fine, Ava. But are you sure? You look a bit pale." Ava waved her hand dismissively. "Of course, I'll be fine. Don't worry about me."
Shopia smiled at the way Ava tried to brush off her concerns. "Thanks, Ava. You're a true friend," she said giving Ava a quick hug. "Okay, Shopia you go get ready for your performance. I'll just go out and take some fresh air. You know it always calms my mind." Shopia agreed and went off.
I walked out from the backstage to the rooftop, which was just two floors away from the hall where the program was being held. I was looking at the view and relaxing when I heard a voice. "Seems we met again." I turned back to see Ethan. "Oh, it's you Ethan what a coincidence".
