NCT JEWEL (엔시티 쥬얼) is a South-Korean girlgroup and the fourth subunit of NCT. The group debuted with the seven members Sam, Hwayoung, Nari, Sohee, Ara, Ming and Yui on September 12, 2016 with their debut single "After School".

NCT was first introduced as an upcoming boygroup in early 2016. However, the CEO and founder of SM Entertainment Lee Sooman changed their original plans and announced to debut a girl sub-unit alongside three boy units. Netizens and Fans reacted with mixed, mainly negative, reviews and boycotted the group entirely, leading to only minor success at NCT debuts time.
On August 15, SM Entertainment officially introduced the girl sub-unit of NCT as NCT Jewel and revealed the members in the following days: Leader Sam was a known SM trainee as part of their SM ROOKIE system since late 2014 and fans of her were excited for her to debut. Hwayoung and Nari also were known trainees due to their SM ROOKIE time since 2015. Member Sohee has been part of SM Entertainment since the same time as her older sister, who is a member of Red Velvet, and such had a large fandom behind her, as well as her sisters fans supporting her. The two not known members by the time were Ara, who joined SM Entertainment reportingly in 2012, and Ming, a chinese actress-singer who had been with SM Entertainment since 2013. The last member reveal was scandalous, given the young age of member Yui, who had been barely 14 by the time of debut. Yui had been an SM Entertainment trainee since 2010 and was announced as a promising SM ROOKIE in 2014. She also joined other SM ROOKIES and fellow NCT members in the Disney Mickey Mouse Club in 2015.
