You stormed back into the tavern, your heart still racing from the unexpected kiss. Frustration boiled within you, and you grumbled, "That fucking Mercenary! He got lucky I didn't punch him in the face."
Jiyan was still away, and you needed something to calm your nerves. You headed straight to the bartender, and said "Give me the most expensive whiskey you have."
The bartender, sensing your agitation, raised an eyebrow but complied without question.
"Here you go, Madam. Be careful with this one. It's a beast."
"Oh, I'll show this beast who's the real beast." you mumbled, taking a swig from the bottle.
You chugged the whiskey, feeling the burn in your throat. "Ah, that's better." You sighed, wiping your mouth.
But as you close your eyes, your mind keeps drifting back to the passionate kiss you shared with Calcharo. Your cheeks flushed, and you started slapping yourself back and forth, trying to erase the lingering sensation that he left on your lips. "Damn it! Why can't I forget about it?!!! Why does he have to be so... so... so... so... so... so..." You stuttered, your face redder than a ripe tomato.
"I'll strangle that piece of shit to death the next time I see him...."
You were just about to take another swig when a voice beside you made you pause.
"Are you planning to get drunk tonight?"
Startled, you instinctively hid the empty bottle of whiskey behind your back, stammering, "W-What?! I'm not drinking anything! I mean, I-I just drank some water."
"You're a terrible liar, you know that?" Jiyan raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms over his chest, clearly waiting for an explanation.
You sighed, putting the bottle of whiskey back on the counter, "Just had a little bit of chasing with a pesky child."Jiyan took a seat beside you on the counter, "What happened?"
You shrugged, "A child stole my coin purse."
"Shouldn't we try to find that kid?" Jiyan suggested.
You shook your head, "No point. Not enough money in there to buy myself a bottle of beer anyway. I'll just consider it as a lesson learned."
Jiyan nodded, accepting your answer. You felt guilty for not sharing the full story with him, especially about your encounter with Calcharo.
"So now you're dealing with your frustrations through alcohol?" Jiyan inquired, raising an eyebrow.
"Something like that." You answered, avoiding eye contact.
Jiyan, sensing your discomfort, changed the subject, "By the way, I'm sorry for leaving you so abruptly earlier. My Lieutenant just wanted to discuss some things regarding our upcoming expedition next month."
"Expedition? How long?"
"One to two months, depending on the terrain and weather conditions. We'll need to secure the routes and assess any potential threats." Jiyan explained, his expression serious.
Silence descended upon the two of you as you processed the information. "It's a long time." you murmured, concern clouding your features.
Jiyan squeezed your shoulder gently, "We'll be fine. We'll prepare our troops to handle any situation that may arise. Besides, we'll be back before you know it."
And then he paused, his eyes glinting with mischief as he smirked, "Why the sad face? Are you going to miss me?"
You blushed furiously, and smacked Jiyan on the head, "Don't be ridiculous. I won't have time to miss you with all the work I have to do."
