Matthew Cole x Logan Gray
Stars In Your Eyes

I'm so scared of the last 100 pages of this book I'm writing my own end.

Word count: 1167

It was late. Too late.

Logan was tired out of his mind but for some reason his body had decided that he was too tired to sleep. He had spend about two hours just talking to Mattie before the man had started to make no sense and had just babbled bullshit till he finally fell asleep. And then Logan had spend an hour just holding him. Trying his best to fall asleep in the safety of their bed, cuddled up with his favorite person.

Then Mattie had turned away in his sleep and he had decided to get some water.

And now he was sitting on their balcony, wrapped in one of the blankets they kept in a basket next to their huge couch. The night wasn't too cold. And he liked watching the few cars drive by outside of their house. He felt the weight of his phone on his stomach but had no urge to grab it and do something with it. The light would just keep him awake, anyways.

Logan leaned his head back and looked up to the sky. He could see the stars. Stars had become a huge fascination of his. Growing up in LA, he had barely ever been able to see the stars. The light pollution had been so bad, he had always been able to only see the really bright ones.

But now, in their small house by the country side it was different. He could see cars drive by but all of the houses around them were dark, barely any street lights. It was peaceful. Life felt slower here. And not in a bad way.

Maybe he would be able to convince Mattie to get a dog. Or maybe a cat. A frog pond in the garden. He doubted that it would be a big discussion.

"Hey Matt, can we get a pet?"
"Sure, just let me look up the website of the shelter. What were you thinking?"

They both had the time now. Logan more than Mattie but generally, they both had a more comfortable life. No 12 hour shooting days, anymore. Barely any traveling for work. They were home a lot. A dog would be amazing now that they had the time.

He sighed happily, finally deciding to pull out his phone anyway.

It wasn't hard to find the website of the shelter in their city. Logan had helped with a few adoption runs and charity events they had held. That's why he knew that it wouldn't be a big discussion. Mattie loved dogs and the idea to rescue some pets who needed to start a better life.

Slowly, Logan scrolled through the listed animals. From parrots over bunnies to a donkey and a mule.

Logan considered begging Mattie for the donkey for a brief moment but he knew that Mattie would never agree to that. He decided to still do it, just for funsies.

Statistically, older and black dogs had the worst chances of getting adopted. Being big was also a problem. And if they were considered to be a dangerous breed.

He knew that he had scrolled past a pitbull.

But he didn't want to set his heart on a dog yet. Maybe Mattie would still say no. Maybe he was scared of some dog breeds.

He clicked his phone off again, dropping it back onto his stomach and tightly wrapping the blanket around his legs. He smiled into himself, happy with his comfortable life.

"Logan? Are you okay?"

A little shocked, he turned around, looking at Mattie's sleepy face. He was wearing one of Logan's shirt, probably had picked it up on his search for Logan.

"Great, actually." Logan said honestly, smiling at him.

Mattie rubbed his eyes, stepping out onto the balcony and sitting down next to Logan on the bench. Logan opened his arms, pulling the blanket aside, giving Mattie space to lay down on him. Mattie did, sighing happily when Logan wrapped the blanket around both of them.

"What are you doing out here?" he asked, looking up at Logan.

"Well, first I simply couldn't sleep. I have to admit that was a little frustrating and I didn't feel that great but then I had a smart idea and now I'm quite happy with myself and my life."

"Tell me about your smart idea, then." Mattie chuckled, waking up a little more.

"So. First, we build a barn."

"Excuse me, we're doing what?" Mattie asked, raising an eyebrow. Logan could see in his face that he was questioning if he was possibly having a weird dream.

"We'll build a barn. And then, we will adopt the donkey the shelter has right now."

"Well, that's not happening."

"Do you even love me?" Logan asked, dramatically pressing a hand to his chest, nearly hitting Mattie in the head by accident.

"You know I do, you dramatic fuck." He rolled his eyes, grinning goofily at Logan's expression. He knew that Logan had hated his life in LA and the way he grew up. But acting still meant fun for him. He was good at it and if he wasn't forced to do it, he had fun with it. So seeing him act out these little dramatic scenes was something Mattie loved.

"Okay, okay... So no donkey..." Logan sighed in exaggerated disappointment, "How about a dog, then?"

"You know, you could have asked for a dog without trying to trick me into getting a donkey first?"

"Boring much?"

They both chuckled at that, Mattie comfortably nestling his head against Logan's neck. He was starting to get more tired again. And he knew that he would regret it if he fell asleep on the bench but right now, the pain seemed fairly worth it.

"I thought we could check out the shelter. We have the time and the space... And there's for sure a dog that needs a home..."

"I think we need to think about more than just that. Like what kind of dog we are looking for. I still have to travel sometimes but we need to consider if we want an active dog or rather a couch potato." Mattie mumbled. Logan knew he was drifting off to sleep again.

"Are you serious?" he asked softly, "Would you get a dog with me?"

"Yeah, of course. I actually kinda thought we already agreed on getting a dog some day but you know... We need to make an actual plan... Not just 'Yay puppy'."

"I know." Logan whispered, grinning happily. He pressed a kiss against Mattie's temple. Carefully, he reached between them, pocketing his phone before he pushed Mattie carefully up.

"We're making a game plan tomorrow, alright?" he whispered, "Let's get you back to bed now."

"Will you stay this time?" Mattie teased.

"Of course, my love. I'll go to sleep with you now. I have something awesome to dream of now. You... Shirtless... Cuddling with a doggo..."

"Get your mind out of the gutter, Gray."
