Shin felt like her head was being torn apart by a crazy headache.

"Augh, what the hell..." she groaned.

Slowly, she opened her eyes and looked around in confusion. Above her, a blood-red crescent moon hung in the sky. Although most of the moon was covered by dark clouds, its edges could still be vaguely seen, glowing ominously. Why was the moon red? Where was she? Her hazy consciousness finally came to her senses.

"Am I dreaming?" Shin muttered to herself, startled by the sound of her own voice. Her throat felt raw. "My throat... cough—" She coughed a few times, but her voice still sounded different from before.

Looking around, she noticed something on the ground—a motionless body with blood pooling around it. Panic gripped her heart.

"What the hell! What kind of murder scene is this?!" she exclaimed, startled. Her first reaction wasn't that she had traveled through time, but rather a memory—the last moment she remembered before everything went dark. She had destroyed the lab.

"Shit! I just destroyed the laboratory. It was all in vain," she thought frantically. "I didn't even get to see the looks on those damn people's faces." Despair gripped her as the realization hit hard. It was all in vain! Shin felt her vision darken, anger and frustration boiling within her.

She turned her head up, her eyes locking onto the crimson moon that loomed like a devil's eye, its gaze piercing through the night and directly into her soul. "Ah-ah!" The headache intensified, sharp and relentless. Unable to stand, her legs buckled, and she collapsed to her knees.

In the eerie red moonlight, she looked down at her arms, then to her torso, and finally to her legs, noticing they were free from the confines of her bottoms. A scream tore from her lips, melodious yet unfamiliar, echoing into the night. "What is happening to me?"

A series of voices flooded her mind, disjointed and hauntingly familiar.

"...Long time, no see," a female voice whispered.

"This mission is extremely risky. I suggest you..." A man's voice echoed.

"...Follow the rules of the role-playing. As your sequence improves, you will see more," the female voice continued.

"...I didn't expect you to be promoted so quickly. It's time for me to fulfill my promise..."

"...This is the material for a Sequence 8: Melee Scholar. Congrats on your promotion," a young man said.

"Welcome to the Night Watch, Miss Shin Everhart."

A torrent of words and memories surged through Shin's mind, some firm and resolute, others mysterious and elusive. They echoed in her ears, overlapping and intertwining, until they gradually faded into a dull throb that matched the pounding of her blood vessels. The red moon loomed larger in her vision, its malevolent presence growing ever more oppressive.

"The Kingdom of Loen? Tingen City? What on earth is this place..."
