As the spring semester came to an end, Dawn felt a mix of relief and anticipation. Her second year at Ivy University had been a whirlwind of emotions, academic challenges, and personal growth. With finals behind her, she looked forward to a much-needed break back in Ixiona, Wisconsin. The thought of returning home filled her with a comforting sense of nostalgia, but it also brought a twinge of apprehension.

The events of the past year had left her relationship with Charlie altered, and her burgeoning romance with Michael was still new and uncertain. As she packed her bags, Dawn couldn't help but wonder what the summer would hold for her.

The train ride from Ivy University to Ixiona was long but gave Dawn ample time to reflect on the past year. The scenic route, with its rolling hills and expansive fields, provided a serene backdrop for her thoughts. As the train chugged along, Dawn replayed moments from her time at Ivy in her mind—the late-night study sessions, the exhilarating campus events, and the deep conversations she'd had with Michael. She thought about the fundraiser night when Michael had taken her hand and how that simple gesture had sent a flurry of emotions through her.

Her phone buzzed, interrupting her reverie. It was a message from Michael:

Michael: "Safe travels, Dawn. Can't wait to hear all about Ixiona when you get back. I'll miss you."

Dawn smiled, her heart warming at his words. She quickly typed a reply:

Dawn: "Thanks, Michael. I'll miss you too. I'll keep you updated."

As the train neared her hometown, Dawn's excitement grew. The familiar landscape brought back a flood of memories from her childhood and high school years. She was eager to see her family and reconnect with friends, even though she knew things might feel different this time.

Dawn's parents, Elbert and Irean Mitchell, were waiting for her at the station, their faces lighting up as she stepped off the train. Her mother, Irean, enveloped her in a warm hug, and her father, Elbert, gave her a hearty pat on the back.

"Welcome home, sweetheart!" Irean exclaimed. "We've missed you so much."

"I've missed you too, Mom," Dawn replied, feeling a wave of affection wash over her.

The drive home was filled with lively chatter as Dawn caught up with her parents. She shared stories about her classes, her new friends, and the various projects she had worked on. Elbert and Irean listened intently, proud of her accomplishments and eager to hear every detail.

When they arrived home, Dawn was greeted by the familiar scents and sounds of her childhood. Her room had been left untouched, a comforting reminder of her past. As she unpacked her bags, she felt a sense of peace settle over her. This was where she had grown up, where she had formed her earliest dreams and aspirations. Being back in Ixiona felt like slipping into a well-worn, beloved sweater.

As the end of summer approached, Michael called Dawn with a surprise.

"Hey, Dawn," he said, his voice filled with anticipation. "I was thinking... I'd love to come visit you before we head back to Ivy. Maybe we could travel back together?"

Dawn's heart skipped a beat at the idea. "That sounds amazing, Michael! I'd love to show you around Ixiona."

Michael's visit was set for the following weekend. As Dawn prepared for his arrival, she felt a mix of excitement and nerves. This would be the first time Michael would meet her family, and she hoped they would all get along.

The day Michael arrived, Elbert and Irean were eager to meet him. They had planned a casual barbecue in the backyard, a perfect setting for an informal introduction. The sun was shining, and the aroma of grilled burgers and hot dogs filled the air.
