It was almost as if I was dreaming- If that dream was a fever dream. One second, I'm at an average, public high school, residing in a small town in the center of Ohio. What I did for "fun" consisted of going to the gas station and our local Walmart with the only two friends I had, driving around forested areas at night that were considered 'haunted', and finding cool spots to get high and escape reality for a bit. I did manage to keep up with my school work, and got mostly B's on average. Unlike most sixteen year-olds, I genuinely enjoyed doing homework. I guess it's what kept me sane, knowing there's always something for me to do, or something new to learn about. But the next second ... I'm attending a boarding school you'd think would come straight out of a fairytale. Like those bedtime stories your parents read to you as kids; except they've all come to life. It feels like I'm attending Hogwarts on acid.
This school is definitely a culture shock. Maybe more than that, but I can't really find the right way to describe it. If there even is a right way to describe it. I think any normal person would faint in misbelief if I had told them what kind of school I attend. Fairies, Gargoyles, Goblins, Witches and Warlocks, even Sirens are all a very real thing here. I mean, I'd know, obviously. I go to school with them.
My parents thought this place may be a good fit for me; since it is advertised as a school for the "gifted" after all. I wouldn't say I am personally, but my parents sincerely believe I'm going to become a world-renowned artist someday. If only they knew what "gifted" really meant here. Of course, it's not even really said out loud. Even the headmaster keeps the whole thing a secret to parents who are enrolling their very much human, and not "gifted" in the slightest teenagers. I think she only does, because if people knew what this place really was, a hoard of angry humans, who are ignorant to any species other than their own, would show up at the door with torches and pitchforks. As if it were the Salem Witch Trials. I'm not the only human at this school though, as you may think. There's several others here, that are only here for the astounding creative curriculum. Just as I am. Nobody really pays mind to the fact that some of the species that reside here could kill us at any moment- because they can, and thankfully everyone seems to get along quite well. Obviously you're gonna have cliques, but they're not 'species based' cliques. They're interest-based, and of course, based on your social status. Just like any other high school would be. 'Bearington Academy For The Gifted Arts', is just like any regular boarding school; I keep telling myself. Except it's not.
