"This shit again?"
-𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞

I grabbed my bag off my office table and made my way out. "Going home early today?" My assistant questioned me while giving me a warm smile.

"Yes ma'am. I've had a long one, and I think I need to rest."

"Zyair better be waiting to massage you. You work hard, Amara." She let out, causing me to smile.

"Girl, you know him; he's probably out with the boys. Lock up after Dess and Dani, okay?" I told her, and she nodded before signing on a page that she was holding.

"You have a good one." She told me, and I sighed before turning around. "All love." I let out before making my way towards the door. I stepped out and immediately felt the warm air hit my face, causing me to close my eyes, taking it all in.

"It's a good day to be outside." I let out before laughing my tired ass off a little and making my way to my black car. As I entered the car, just before I closed my door, someone grabbed it, startling me.

Before I screamed, they opened the door wider. "Mara, it's me." He let out, causing me to relax as I saw who it was.

"Stop doing that, Austin!" I reprimanded, letting out a relieved sigh. "You know I don't play that shit; what if I sock you one day?"

"My bad Shawty, I just wanted to stop and talk to you real quick. I haven't been seeing you lately."

"Austin. You can't keep showing up at my job, and you know Zyair won't appreciate this shit given the history." I told him, and he looked down. "Are you trying to ruin things for me?"

"Now you know that ain't it, Amara. I just like spending time with you, man. I ain't on that shit no more." He told her honestly, as he longed for some time with her.

Austin had had a crush on Amara for years, and at one point, they were very close. That was until Zyair came into the picture. She started spending more time with Zy, and even though Austin never made any advances after she rejected him, Zyair wasn't happy with the idea of him being in the picture anymore.

He would badmouth Austin as many times as he could, and all Amara and Austin's friendship did was intensify the trust issues Zyair had within him. It got so bad that Mara had to beg Austin to give her some space up until Zy trusted her more, which he understood, to a certain extent, of course.

"It's not like he finna find out, Mara, come on." He tried to persuade her. "I miss my best friend, yo." He added on as she melted under his gaze. The guard she had up was slowly going down. She missed him too. The two were inseparable before Zy, and although it looked like it didn't bother her on her side, it did. She just seemingly held it together better.

"So what do you say? We hang at my crib? I got some snacks, and we can order some food." He suggested, but the truth is, she was still tired from the week's work.

"Uh," she contemplated the suggestion. "Rain-check? I'm tired today, Ace." She softly declined, calling him by his childhood nickname.

"Aight, I'll let you be. I tried, man." He told her as a look of disappointment swam in his eyes. "Have a good day, yo." He told her sadly before shutting her car door as she fidgeted with her car keys, watching him walk over to his car.

She opened the door again and called out for him, "Austin!" causing him to turn. "How about tomorrow, 6 p.m., cool with you?" She asked anxiously. For a moment, he kept his eyes on her, fighting back his smile.

"I think tomorrow's perfect." He agreed, causing her to smile.

"My favourite drink better be there." She told him, and a laugh involuntarily left his mouth. "Go home, Amara."

Smiling, she entered the car and drove home, hoping to get there and wind down.
