Aurora spent the majority of last period staring outside the window to her left, a breathtaking view of the school's old cherry blossom tree sitting on its hill. Though it wasn't in season, it was January, the buds were a pretty dark pink color. There wasn't a single thing running through Aurora's head as she watched the elder tree.
Jasmine watched the other girl, three seats away, smiling gently at how interested she was in the tree. Her heart swelled against her chest. She broke her gaze and looked back to her teacher as the older woman spoke about homework.
Very soon the period ended, and everyone was free to leave for the day. Aurora stayed for a few extra minutes and zoned out.
Jasmine watched the girl as she packed her things back into her bag. She walked towards her, patting her shoulder. Aurora flinched slightly, turning her head to the girl.
Jasmine responded to Aurora's reaction apologetically. "Sorry, Aurora. Just wanted to let you know class ended. Just by the way."
Aurora smiled softly at her, faintly trying to conceal how nervous she had gotten after her crush woke her up from her disassociation. "Um, you're fine. Thank you."
Jasmine smiled back, before turning away and walking out the door.
This small occurrence happened once a week for about three months, each time a little more words got exchanged, and each girl liked the other a little bit more. Those little supposedly 'meaningless' interactions turned them into friends.
One warm April day, Jasmine decided to break the cycle and confess her undeniable feelings for Aurora. She decided to confess at Aurora's favorite spot. So, when Aurora was packing up to leave, she approached her.
Jasmine let out silent deep breaths before speaking. "Aurora, hey."
There goes that pretty voice, the one she heard in her dreams. Aurora's stomach instantly filled with butterflies as she heard Jasmine. She turned and greeted the other girl. "Hey."
The two looked at each other awkwardly for a moment before Jasmine spoke again. "Do you wanna hang out at the tree, or something..?"
"Yeah, definitely. I mean, sure." Aurora responded quickly, "Just, let me get everything."
Jasmine nodded, watching as Aurora continued getting ready. After she was done, Aurora followed Jasmine outside to the Cherry Blossom tree. It was in full bloom and it was gorgeous. Jasmine could see why Aurora liked it so much. The pink petals, with the darker inside. It swayed gently in the way of the wind.
The two sat down next to each other against the tree trunk. Their legs slightly touched each other, they didn't care to move.
"This place is really cool," Jasmine whispered, looking at the window of the classroom they were just in. She always unknowingly spoke softer around Aurora.
"Yeah." Aurora agreed. She paid attention to the way Jasmine's long hair fell on her shoulders.
They both went silent momentarily, Jasmine then breaking it once again.
"To be honest..." She trailed her words, contemplating if she should even do it now. She went against her head, siding with her heart. "I like you. That's it. I've liked you for a while now, I only got brave enough to tell you now. I like you and I think you're very pretty, Aurora."
To Aurora, it felt like time stopped, Jasmine looked over to her gaze, seemingly in slow motion. Her pulse increased. Her heartbeat echoed through her brain. What almost killed her was when Jasmine put her hand on top of hers
Her voice went quiet and she croaked out a response. "Yeah, me too." In reality, she wanted to scream and scream some more and tell Jasmine she was in love with her, that she was perfect, and that she couldn't stop thinking of her and wanted to date her so so so badly.
Jasmine intertwined their fingers. She turned her head away from Aurora, hiding her cheese-eating grin. She calmed herself down, restricting herself from jumping up and down and making out with her. She turned back and responded.
"So, are we like..dating?"
Aurora answered the floating question happily, "I think so."
At that point, Jasmine was a blushing mess, her cheeks and ears turned into the same color as the cherry blossoms. Aurora put her head on the other's shoulder, smiling as she looked at her now girlfriend, hearts practically forming in her eyes.
"Can I kiss you, maybe?" Jasmine questioned, her racing heart never slowing for a break.
Aurora sat up, taking her head off Jasmine's shoulder, and nodded, yet never breaking eye contact with her.
Jasmine showed her a smile, before leaning in and grasping onto Aurora's jaw gently. Everything moved in slow motion, for the both of them. They closed their eyes. Jasmine kissed Aurora sweetly. It was a kiss that felt like heaven.
The wind grew stronger, the two's hair began dancing gracefully. The cherry blossom tree danced along. Small petals from the tree fell around the two girls. Several landed on each of their heads.
Jasmine broke the kiss and looked into Aurora's eyes. It was like she could see her future with the girl in those big, brown eyes.
