BY THE TIME THE SHOAH ENDED IN 1945, THE NOVAK FAMILY HAD NEARLY BEEN REDUCED TO NOTHING.

when RUTH NOVAK immigrated to the southern united states following the end of the war, she brought nothing with her but her family name, her husband's coat, & her twin daughters. after the terrors she had experienced in europe, she hoped the united states would provide a safe haven for her to raise her children, untouched by such violence & bigotry.

when JULIAN NOVAK first started to experience her powers, the american dream that her mother ruth had envisioned began to corrode around her. at just 8 years old, JULIAN could not only read other's emotions, but could amplify them as well, even manipulate them — a genetic abnormality reflected on the skin of her face in an array of changing colors. it became hard to masquerade as a 'normal' family as the world turned its fearful eye onto what it considered the next biggest threat: MUTANTS.

now a member of the X-MEN & a teacher at the XAVIER's SCHOOL FOR GIFTED YOUNGSTERS, the fear of persecution JULIAN was raised with exists now as a source of strength, alongside the promise that she & her family will never again suffer at the hands of those who think themselves better.

in 2023, when LOGAN's past & future self finally reunite with his present, he is left without any knowledge of the last fifty years, of the people around him, & of the woman he loves. as he adjusts to a reality he was stripped of, JULIAN must come to terms with the harsh truth that she is a stranger to the one she trusts more than anyone.

the past & future may not be truly set, but their scars remain all the same.
