Isabella's pulse quickened as Damian stepped closer, his presence almost overwhelming. He stopped just short of her, eyes piercing through the darkness.
"What do you think you're doing here?" His voice was calm, but the underlying menace was unmistakable.
Isabella swallowed hard, maintaining her composure. "I’m following a lead," she replied, trying to sound braver than she felt.
"Do you have any idea who you're dealing with?" Damian's tone was icy, but there was a flicker of curiosity in his eyes.
"I know exactly who you are, Damian," she said, meeting his gaze head-on. "And I'm not backing down."
For a moment, silence hung between them, the tension thick in the air. Then, to her surprise, Damian's expression softened just a fraction.
"You're either very brave or very foolish," he said quietly, almost to himself. "But I admire your tenacity."
Without another word, he turned and disappeared back into the shadows, leaving Isabella standing there, her heart still racing. She had just come face-to-face with the most dangerous man in the city, and she was more determined than ever to uncover his secrets.
