Chapter One

Armaan Talks With Ruhi

Armaan had just come back after bringing Abhira with him.

With much difficulty bearing his family's scoldings, he was able to take Abhira in his room.

But he was out because his main concern was to talk with Ruhi. Who was nowhere to be found.

He went to the garden of the house where he saw Ruhi sobbing. His heart broke seeing it.

"Ruhi", he stopped as she raised her hand. She looked at him and shook her head.

"Don't come near me, Armaan. I don't want to talk. Leave me alone. I am not in my senses right now", she said.

Armaan ignored it and came near her. "I am sorry, Ruhi. I had no other option. Please", he said with tears and she glared at him.

"No other option? You could have just brought her here to keep her safe. You married her", she accused.

"Ruhi you are saying as if it was by my will. I never wanted to be with a girl like her who upset my family numerous times before in the resort but her mother requested so we had no other option", he said.

"To heck with her mother. Your main priority was whom? Her mother or me? Whose promise?" She asked.

"Yours", Armaan whispered feeling tears in his own eyes seeing her crying.

"You promised to never replace me with anyone else. Moreover you married her despite loving me. This is unfair with her. Can you ever forget me and love her Armaan?" She asked.

"No. But it's-it's just a limited time marriage. It's not forever. As soon as her studies get complete, she will leave", Armaan assured.

Ruhi hissed. "You don't understand what marriage is, do you?" She asked.

"Ruhi, I am saying the truth", he said.

"Armaan! Think before you speak", she exclaimed. "You never know when you will fall in love. You will live with her from now on. Day to night, night to day. You will be her husband. Her life partner. You both will never know when you will become habitual to each other".

"That's not possible, I love you", Armaan said.

Ruhi laughed. "love", she laughed sarcastically. "Had you loved me, you would have never let me marry your brother. Just that thought would have made you angry", she said and stood up. "but see where we are now".

"Ruhi. It happened because of you in the first place", Armaan said. "I did rather die than losing you. I have loved you", he said in a broken voice.

"And I accept that", Ruhi shouted. "I accept that I was a fool. I was ready to tell the truth, you backed away", she said. "You made me marry your brother", she said in tears.

"Because I had no option", Armaan shouted.

"You had Armaan. You are in the misconception your family will hate you but you had no fault in it. You made your brother stay in a marriage where he will get no love", she said.

"You will learn to love him", he said with gritted teeth feeling his words burn in his throat.

"And just like that you will learn to love Abhira too", Ruhi said shattered.

Armaan had no words.

"I have decided Armaan", Ruhi said. "Even if I want to give a chance to Rohit. You will stay in front of me. And when your love is in front of you, everything gets difficult", she said.

"What do you mean?" Armaan asked in fear of hearing the next words.

"I did a stupidity agreeing for this marriage. I did wrong with Rohit. But it's not too late. I will tell him I love someone else. Don't worry, I won't take your name. I will take the blame myself and leave", Ruhi declared.

"You promised to stay. You promised to live as his wife. You don't trust me at all", Armaan said angrily but in his voice was just pain.

"I trust you but I don't trust my fate Armaan. I won't be left of any place if you fall in love with Abhira. Which will happen very soon. I need to leave. I have too", Ruhi said to him.

Armaan looked at her taken aback.

"I guess we were never meant to be Armaan", she said painfully. "Have a happy married life with Abhira".

Armaan pulled her as she tried to leave. "In my whole life, if I have ever wished for something, it is you and I lost you to my brother. I lived with the hope of seeing you again and you are leaving me", he said to her.

"What should I do? We can't hide this truth from Rohit. Armaan, you don't realise in the attempts of keeping your brother happy, you are giving him such a painful life that he will never be able to get over it. Get your senses back. We are ruining two lives", Ruhi exclaimed in anger.

"Ok. We will tell the truth to Rohit and Abhira both. But if he agrees to live with you even after that, don't leave", Armaan said.

"Only a fool will agree after knowing this", Ruhi said with tears and sobbed.

"We don't need to care about Abhira. She has no expectations with this marriage. I will coax Rohit. But promise me if he agrees, you will stay", Armaan said to Ruhi.

"Why do you want me to stay Armaan?" Ruhi asked with a broken heart.

"I don't know. But I just don't want you going away. I regret the decision I took in haste. After marrying Abhira forcefully, I realised your pain Ruhi. I can't stay in this marriage either but I have no option", Armaan said.

"If Rohit agrees then..." Ruhi trailed off.

"Give him love. Give him support. Make him happy. We will keep loving each other from afar", Armaan said sadly chucking.

Ruhi broke down in tears seeing him. He didn't feel loved by his own family that's why he sacrificed his love.

Sometimes life could be so harsh. So harsh!
