Julie sat on her couch watching the movie "White Chicks." Over the summer that was her routine. Wake up, brush teeth, eat breakfast, sit on the couch, scroll through socials, eat lunch, sit on the couch and watch a movie, eat dinner, finish the movie, shower, brush teeth, sleep, then wake up and do everything again.

Even though in some people's eyes Julie seemed as if she was miserable over break, Julie couldn't be more at ease. Her life was uneventful but peaceful and Julie chose peace over anything.

She only had two friends, Eli and Demetri. They were better friends than anyone she was friends with growing up. One of them being Samantha Larusso.

Sam and Julie used to be inseparable til high school came and Sam chose popularity over friendship. Julie was very hurt and promised herself not to get too attached to her friends in case they left her just like Sam did.

The world seemed to be in her favor since all she felt was happiness in the moment. A feeling that didn't always stick around that long.

Julie sat watching her movie when her mom walked to sit on the couch with her.

"Julie, aren't you bored of sitting around watching movies all day?" Her mom questions.

Julie shakes her head, "Not really Mom, I mean I feel like life is on my side. I feel so relaxed." She smiles.

Her mom smiles at her, "Well I'm tired of you staring at screens so much so I have a job for you."

Julie puckers her lips a little as she sighs, "Okay Mom what is it?"

"I want you to go to the mini-mart in the Reseda Strip Mall and buy a cake mix for us to bake tomorrow since our new neighbors just moved in today." Her mom answers.

Julie smiles awkwardly, "I didn't know we had new neighbors."

Her mom jokingly rolls her eyes at her. "I know since you're always staring at screens. Now go, the sun is setting and you can walk while seeing it, I know how much you love that."

Julie smiles at her mom's statement. It was true, she loved sunsets, they brought her some sort of peace especially when she was listening to her music. She grabbed her wallet and walked out of her apartment.

As she was leaving her apartment complex she noticed a boy she had never seen before also leaving. Juli would be lying if she said he wasn't cute. He had brown eyes, caramel skin, and short black hair. She quickly looked away when he looked at her and she tried to walk a little faster.

"Uh, hey!" The boy called out to her and Julie stopped walking and turned to face him. When she turned around Miguel felt his heartbeat increase.

She was beautiful. She had pale skin, hazel to greenish eyes, wavy brown hair, and she was a little shorter than him. Miguel felt himself staring for a little too long and quickly cleared his throat.

"I- um, my name's Miguel. My family and I just moved here from Riverside." Miguel says nervously as he sticks out his hand for a handshake. Which he quickly regrets when he sees her look from his hand back to him with a blank face.

Juli puts on a blank face but she wants to smile so badly at his awkwardness. She takes his hand and shakes it. "My name's Juliette, but call me Julie. I prefer my nickname."

Miguel blushes when their hands touch and he flashes her a smile. "Nice to meet you, Julie." Julie can't help but smile back when she notices his braces and she feels her heart beat a little faster. Miguel takes notice when she doesn't smile back at him with her teeth. But he just leaves it and they release hands.

"Well, Julie do you know where the Reseda Strip Mall is? My mom wants me to buy something for my grandma there." Miguel questions her.

Juli chuckles at the convenience and she nods.

"I'm going there to buy something for my mom too." She pauses before asking, "Would you like to walk with me? I can give you the basics of everything."

Miguel feels his heartbeat quicken yet again and he answers a little faster than he wanted to. "Yes! I mean yeah sure." He awkwardly looks down as Juli smiles at him again.

"Okay let's go new boy." Juli smiles as the two walk out of the apartment complex together.
