Tajeswani knocked at the door to her boss's office. Two times. She always did.
„Inside." His deep voice was muffled by the thick wooden door but the always angry undertone it held was still present. She entered the office stopping in front of his desk, hands behind her back.
„You called for me."
„Yes, sit." He pointed at one of the two black leather seats. She followed the order, sitting down and looking him in the eyes, waiting.
„You are one of my best Agents, Hayes", he said.
She simply nodded.
„And as such, I am grateful and lucky to have you on my team."
That was more emotion expressed in one conversation than in the past ten months she had been with the Human Trafficking Task Force. She didn't answer.
„Which is why I am deeply sorry for myself that you have been called off my team." For once, his voice didn't show a sign of arrogant sarcasm or indifference.
„What?" That took her by surprise. She hadn't been called off a task in her whole career. FBI or not. „What exactly does that mean, sir?"
He sighed. „The upper level called. You are to be transferred to another team."
„Another Task Force?"
„No", he shook his head, „another Unit. They are sending you to join the Behavior Analysis Unit."
„The BAU?", she asked and raised her eyebrows, „That's not exactly my field of expertise." Even though she did have experience with having to know what the people around her thought, didn't she?
„The bosses are sure you will do just fine, apparently. And as your Supervisor and Unit Chief I sadly have to agree with them that you will fit in quite perfectly."
„I truly appreciate your confidence in me, sir, but I have to ask; do I have any say in this decision?"
„No you don't. It's decided and I've filled out the paperwork. Here are the final documents, pack your things, you are starting tomorrow." He handed her a file and refocused on the case papers he had been studying earlier, dismissing her.
As she left the office, she flipped through the documents. Mostly papers proving that she was okay with the transfer and a few she was supposed to fill out about her qualities. Tajeswani tugged the file, along with the few other things she had on her desk, in a box.
The box in her hands she left her office, closing another short lived chapter of her life.***
Tajeswani hadn't said goodbye to anyone in her division. They were her team for a relatively long time and they were a good team but they weren't close, they weren't family. Not like her previous teams. She dangled her motorbike keys from her finger as she walked away from where she parked it and entered her small apartment she had rented for cash. It wasn't well furnished. A kitchen, a bed, a couch and a normal bathroom. No TV or pictures on the walls. The box was stacked in the corner of her living room and she sat down at the kitchen table to fill out the documents, leaving another team and career behind.
