The ballroom was an elegant expanse of glittering chandeliers and opulent decor, a world far removed from Delera's everyday reality. Dressed in an exquisite Arabian costume, her movements were fluid and graceful as she danced among the guests. Her green eyes, vivid and striking against the darkness, scanned the room with a mixture of excitement and anxiety.

As she twirled, her gaze locked onto a figure seated at the front of the room. Her breath caught in her throat. Ivan. Her heart pounded violently against her ribs. She had never expected him to be here. Panic surged within her, but she forced herself to continue dancing, her movements more controlled than she felt.

Her mind raced with a storm of thoughts. Why is he here? The reality of her situation hit her hard—this was not just a charity event for business people as she had been led to believe. The shadows of her past seemed to loom larger with every beat of her heart. Her anger at her boss flared; she cursed him silently for dragging her into this dangerous world once again.

Desperately, she focused on her dance, wishing she could vanish into the floor. Ivan's piercing gaze felt like it was searing through her, and every step seemed to take forever. Her thoughts were a whirlwind of fear and regret, the past and present colliding in a chaotic symphony of emotions.

but how she got here and who's Evan?

One Week Earlier

The morning sun bathed the  Canadian home in a gentle glow. Delera sat at the breakfast table with Mia, her cousin, and Enzo, Mia's husband. The atmosphere was filled with warmth . Delera savored the moment, knowing that the peace would soon be replaced by the chaos of her job.

Mia was animated as she spoke about the upcoming weekend. "Enzo promised to take us to the lake. Atlas is so excited—he keeps asking if it's time to go yet!"

Delera smiled, imagining the serene beauty of the lake. "That sounds perfect. I could use a break from everything. It's been a while since I had a chance to just relax."

Enzo joined them at the table. The conversation turned to their plans, and Delera appreciated the simple joys of family life—moments like these that contrasted sharply with her demanding career.

Later that day, as Delera walked through the bustling newsroom, the contrast between her current and upcoming environments became starkly clear. Her job as a journalist was demanding, with a competitive atmosphere where sensationalism often overshadowed serious issues. Delera felt the weight of her career's challenges, especially when the public preferred lighter stories over corruption and injustice. Her friend and colleague, Evana, was a steady presence, always ready with a supportive word or a shared coffee break. Delera admired Evana's resilience and often confided in her about the difficulties she faced in her career.

As Delera wrapped up her day, her thoughts turned to an interview she had conducted in the past with an American businessman, Liam Carrington. Despite his wealth and charm, Delera had always felt a tinge of unresolved emotions whenever she thought about him. Her crush on him was a small, unspoken part of her life, but it added a layer of complexity to her feelings.

The following evening, Delera sat with her father, Viktor, in the cozy living room. The soft light of the lamps cast a warm glow on their faces, but Viktor's expression was troubled.

"I don't like this job you're going on," Viktor said, his voice tinged with concern. "Italy? It's not what you usually cover. I've got a bad feeling about it."

Delera looked at her father, the gravity of his words sinking in. "Dad, I understand you're worried, but this is a big opportunity for me. It's important for my career."

Mia, who had joined them, added out of no where, "Sometimes I think about how Atlas reminds me of his uncle. It's a reminder of how connected our pasts are, and how complicated things can become."

The conversation left Delera with a heavy heart. Her father's concerns and Mia's nostalgic words reminded her of the complexities of her past and the uncertainty of her future. As she prepared for her job, the weight of these conversations hung over her.
