Strike Twice

    Milagro and I were walking down the streets of New York when we heard a bunch of screaming and a stampede of people running our way.

Milagro and I held onto each other as people pushed past us looking over their shoulders as they sprinted.

"What's going on?" Milagro asked, I shook my head not knowing how to answer her because I didn't know myself.

"Come on," I said running in the opposite direction of the stampede while Milagro called after me.

I spotted the Justice League and a few younger-looking heroes that looked like the knockoffs of each Justice League member.

"Batman," I whispered, okay so I had a little thing for Batman. Who didn't?

They seemed to be fighting off a few villains, a guy in a suit with a freezegun, a woman growing vines out of the pavement...

"Athena we need to get out of here." Milagro took my arm, I noticed someone missing.

"Jaime? Where Jaime, he should be here." I told Milagro who paused scanning the crowd of heroes and villains.

"He can take care of himself-

Milagro was cut off as she got lost in the crowd. I anxiously looked around for her only being knocked over by something hard. I fell on the pavement feeling a stinging feeling on my palms, I looked at my palms before feeling it get dark around me. The guy in the suit aimed his freezegun at me.

I gasped holding out my hand out of fear whilst cowering into my other arm until the sound of a metal hitting against metal made me look again.

"Athena." Wonder Woman whispered her eyes widening as she saw me. "Are you okay?" She held out her hand.

I hesitantly took it as I raised to my feet staring at her with confusion. "H-how did you know my name?"

She shrugged not knowing what to say. I noticed from behind her that the same guy running toward her.

"Watch out!" I warned her she moved out of the way and I held my hand out as if to push the guy away.

A blizzard of ice and wind shot out of my hand freezing the guy in place. I stared at my hand bewildered by what I had just done.

My chest heaved as I tried to catch my breath. Wonder Woman looked at me with the same shock I had.

"I." I choked out taking a step back.

"Athena its ok-

"No!" I yelled making the cars around me fly into buildings. "I-I have to go." My eyes watered, and my throat felt tight.

What was happening to me? I ran and ran and ran until I couldnt no more. I silently prayed I could be anywhere but here and the next thing I knew, I was somewhere secluded.

At a view by a cliff.

This was good enough.

I came back to the suite after our team building excercise mission, exhausted matter of fact. I entered the uncomfortably silent environment a bit taken aback by the lack of commotion.

Usually Athena and Milagro were cooking, or well attempting to, or they were doing some sort of makeovers on each other. Instead I was met with an anxious looking Milagro who was pacing until she saw me.

"Oh Jaime." She rushed to my arms and I instinctively hugged her back.

"Millie? Whats wrong? Where is Athena?" I questioned now kind of worrying too.
