There was a brief moment of silence. The two girls stood there, still as statues. Waiting.

"Do you think it worked?" Jenny questioned, reaching out to lift Adam's hand.

Neither of the girls registered what had happened until it was too late. The potion did work, because in the blink of an eye Adam had Jenny's wrist in one hand, her throat in the other. He pinned her agains the wall, growling and hissing at her.

"ADAM NO!!" Nicholette screamed, trying to pry his hands from around Jenny's throat. "If you're going to kill anyone, kill me. I DID THIS TO YOU!! NOT HER!!"

Adam swung at her, sending Nicholette flying across the room. Her body hit the table with a loud thud. Struggling she stood up, and with all the speed she could muster she ran at him, throwing herself onto his back.

He let go of Jenny, who had collapsed in a heap on the ground, coughing and gasping for air. Adam was furious. Spinning around, trying to throw Nicholette off his back. "JENNY!!" She screamed, "GO GET TESS!! QUICKLY!!" Jenny scurried to her feet, running up the stairs.

Adam dug his nails into Nicholette's arms, causing her to scream, and loosen her grip. In no time, Adam had flipped Nicholette over his head, slamming her on to the table. His hands moved as fast as lighting. One wrapped around her wrists, holding the flailing limbs down, the other wrapped tightly around her throat.

'This is it.' Nicholette thought, as her vision started to blur. 'My family. Everything they worked so hard for, ruined just because I couldn't stand to loose you.' Tears streamed down her face as she conjured up a small soft voice. "Adam. I'm so sorry. Please. Forgive me."

He snarled, his grip around her throat tightening. Nicholette was two seconds away from death, but then a blood curdling scream pierced through the air.

FROM DEATH SHE BROUGHT YOU
HER LIFE SHE GAVE
YOU SHALL NOT HARM HER
OR YOU'll RETURN TO YOUR GRAVE

Suddenly Adam let go, looking down at the crumpled mess that was Nicholette. She was breathing heavily, and looked as though she was going to faint at any moment.

Tess, who was Nicholette's cousin, and also a witch, was beside her, mumbling something under her breath.

"Jesus Hector Christ Merlin. What exactly were you thinking? Did you even think? One, you brought normies down to the basement. You KNOW they're not supposed to be down here. You are jeopardizing everything our family is fighting so hard for. Two, you know the type of magic you just did is taboo. Why do you think the next page in the book was torn out? It's so witches like you can try to preform it. If any of the Elders found out..." Tess shook her head.

"I had to." Nicholette croaked. "He was killed. By some sort of dark magic."

"Okay you need to explain everything to me. Now." Tess started pacing as Nicholette retold the goings on.

"Shit." Tess slid into one of the ornate chairs that littered the room. "You might be in more trouble than I thought."
