Soren stopped. He looked around to find a beautiful, expansive field of grass, big enough to hold the survivors and big enough to rest in for the night. He looked back to see the people of Katolis, an endless stream of tired, wounded, people. Soren found a boulder and stood up on it.

"Everyone!" he shouted, "we are going to rest here for the night. Please sit down and wait. We will do a headcount and gather food. If you are missing people, family members, friends, please bring that to one of the soldiers' attention and we will begin the search for them promptly in the morning. Until then, please prioritize your own care."

"Thank you for addressing everyone, Soren, we really needed a leader," Opeli said with a soft smile. Soren wasn't listening. Perched up on the boulder, he was looking. Where was Corvus? He jumped down from the boulder and ran toward the end of the mass of people. At the end, limped the baker.

"Are you the last survivor?"

"Yes, sir."

"What of Corvus?"

"I'm afraid...he didn't make it, sir." Soren's heart dropped. Every instinct in his body propelled him to run into the trees, run to the castle, run to find his lost companion. But Ezran wasn't here. These people were without a king. If he left, they would have no leader. Soren sank to the floor. Zym nuzzled up next to him. Soren had been running off of pure adrenaline and nothing else. He hadn't had time to process the loss of his dad. He hadn't had time to process the loss of his home. And now, this? Soren couldn't allow himself to rest. If he rested, if he stopped moving and running, he'd start thinking. And that was bad. "Zym, I gotta go. Will you come with me?" Zym gave an electric smile, licking up sparks into Soren's arm.

"Opeli, I'm sorry. I know we need a leader here tonight, but I need to go find Corvus. Please be that leader. I think King Ezran's best wishes are yours as well."

"But Soren-"

"Opeli, please..."

"Go. Go find Corvus. He is an invaluable asset to this kingdom and we cannot lose our strongest soldier."

"Well I don't know about strooongest," Soren muttered.

"I was talking about you. If Corvus is lost, we'd lose you, too. Go." Soren smiled and ran into the forest.
