"We're here!" I squeal excitedly, spotting the island below us.
I thought it was weird when Griffin offered to pack for me for our upcoming trip. Not once had he ever given in to my begging and pleading when I asked him to pack for me. So, I should have known something was up when he offered to do it without me even having to break out the puppy dog eyes.
Figuring we'd been together long enough that he knew what I normally liked to wear, I didn't even bother to double check my suitcase.
It wasn't until Griffin led me to an airport gate that said the destination was Maui that he let me in on the surprise. Now, just hours later, we're circling the lush green island.
Remind me again how I got so lucky?
Before I know it, we're on the ground and on the way to our hotel. "Chickens!" I exclaim from the passenger seat of the rental car, pressing my nose against the glass to get a better look.
He chuckles. "I take you all the way to Hawaii and the thing you're most excited about is the wild chickens?"
"Don't be a buzzkill, Griff," I pout, poking my tongue out at him.
He just smiles, placing his hand on my thigh as he continues the drive to the resort.
As we enter our room with a beautiful private balcony facing the ocean, I sigh happily. "Is this okay?" Griffin asks, coming up behind me and wrapping his arms around my waist.
I lean back against him. "It's perfect," I say happily, turning to face him. "What's the plan for tonight?"
"I thought we could make a couple drinks and watch the sunset on the beach," Griffin says, dropping a quick kiss on my nose.
Happily, I agree, grabbing the whiskey, coke, and 2 tumblers for us to take down. As I finish mixing the drinks together, Griffin comes up behind me, slapping my butt.
"Ready?"
"Ready!" I exclaim.
Taking a blanket to sit on, as well as our drinks, we make our way down to the beach, finding a secluded spot to spread out our blanket. Griffin sits, motioning for me to settle between his legs. I do, leaning back against his chest.
The sound of the waves and the colors streaking across the sky make my heart feel like it's going to burst with happiness.
"It's so beautiful," I say quietly, turning my head so that Griffin can hear me.
"Yes you are," he responds cheesily, drinking in my laugh as he captures my mouth with his.
"I love you so much, Griffin," I say when we break apart. "This surprise is just perfect. How did I get so lucky?"
"Pretty sure I'm the lucky one." He's quiet for a moment before he speaks again. "I have one more surprise for you."
I smile, rolling my eyes at my incredibly sweet man. "Griff, this is beyond enough. You didn't have to do anything else!"
"But you deserve everything," he counters, as I turn to face him fully. "You're absolutely the best thing that's ever happened to me, Princess, and there is no doubt in my mind that I want to spend the rest of my life with you."
My heart picks up as he reaches into his pocket, pulling out a small box. Opening it, he asks, "Aria, will you marry me?"
My stomach bottoms out, and I throw myself at him, wrapping my arms around his neck. "Yes!"
He blows out a sigh of relief and chuckles as he catches me. "Thank goodness. I think that's the most nervous I've ever been in my entire life."
I lean back and plant my lips on his, letting the kiss speak for itself. There are no doubts. No reservations.
Finally, I pull away.
"Did you even see the ring?" Griffin teases, offering me the box.
"Not really. I focused on you." Taking the box from him, I look at the ring nestled in the center. "Oh," I breathe. "It's beautiful, Griffin."
Small leaves decorate the band, encircling a small stone in the middle of the ring.
"Do you like it?" he asks nervously.
"I love it almost as much as I love you." I beam as he takes it from the box and holds his hand out, asking for mine. I give it to him, watching as he slips the ring onto my finger.
"I adore you," I say simply, climbing into his lap.
"This means you'll finally move in with me, right?" he asks, a lazy smile on his face.
"Nope," I tease. "You can move in with me, though. Only one of us owns the house they live in."
"As long as I'm with you, I couldn't care less where we live," he responds, grabbing the nape of my neck and pulling me to him.
We share another sweet kiss, eventually breaking apart to revel in the sunset, the light bouncing off my new ring in a kaleidoscope of colors.
"Welcome to your happily ever after, Princess."
