Chapter 29
Yilt was the first female insect to reach the garden.
As he arrived at the garden entrance, he saw the massive star beast hunched over something. Due to the beast's large size, Yilt couldn't see what lay beneath it. Scanning the garden quickly, he didn't spot Fu Lingchen, making his already pale face even more ashen.
Seeing the star beast roaring towards the sky, Yilt's green eyes blazed with intense anger, his killing intent so palpable that it seemed to weigh down the air around him.
Yilt's smooth nails suddenly elongated and sharpened, gleaming coldly like blades. He leaped with such speed that only an afterimage remained, appearing instantly above the star beast.
The star beast, focused on its prey, didn't even register the pain as its heart was pierced. Its massive body collapsed backward, raising a cloud of dust. As the star beast died, the terrifying black hole in the sky gradually shrank and disappeared.
With the beast down, Yilt finally saw Fu Lingchen inside the protective shield. Seeing him safe, Yilt's tension melted away.
However, recalling his actions driven by a moment of rage, Yilt silently placed his right hand behind his back, subtly shaking off the blue blood of the star beast from his fingers. The blood splattered on the ground nearby, quietly forming small blue stains.
The female insects who had been following Yilt finally arrived at the garden. They had expected to find the shattered bodies of Fu Lingchen and the others, but instead saw Fu Lingchen and Kaviel hiding under a semi-transparent light shield.
"Thank goodness, they're safe!"
"What's that glowing thing covering Lord Fu Lingchen and Lord Kaviel?"
"Is it the latest defensive weapon from the military?"
"No... this should be a mental defense web woven by Lord Fu Lingchen!" an elderly female insect reminded them. "If you look closely around Lord Fu Lingchen, you'll notice a faint aura, indicating he's using his mental power."
"What? A mental defense web!"
"I remember reading about something similar in the news over twenty years ago. A male insect's mental power suddenly surged in a moment of danger, protecting himself with it. This must be the same reason for Lord Fu Lingchen. But I recall that male insect had an A-level mental power. Isn't Lord Fu Lingchen's mental power supposed to be low? How is he able to protect both himself and Lord Kaviel simultaneously? That previous male could barely protect himself, and his female servant died on the spot because of that incident."
"Now that you mention it, I remember people discussing how male insects' mental power could be used for defense back then. But after the initial buzz, no one talked about it much."
"People used to think only ancient male insects could use mental power for such feats. Nowadays, because of genetic degradation, mental power is only used to relieve our mental stress. But these two incidents suggest that modern male insects can do more with their mental power."
"But these events are twenty years apart, and each occurred in life-and-death situations. We can't put all male insects in such danger."
"Maybe they don't have to be in danger. It could be achieved through regular training."
"The problem is, I've never heard of training methods for male insects' mental power. Without a way to train, it's pointless."
"Let's not discuss this now. Haven't you noticed Lord Hiram is missing? Wasn't he supposed to be in the garden too? Why isn't he here?"
