Adira perched on the edge of her couch, her eyes fixed on Liam's face.

"What kind of danger?" she asked, her voice taut with apprehension.

Liam sighed, his gaze flicking from side to side as if searching for the right words.

"There are forces at work that you can't understand," he said, his tone grave.

"People who will stop at nothing to get what they want."

Adira's mind raced. "Why me?" she asked.

Liam hesitated, his fingers drumming against his thigh."I can't tell you everything," he finally said. "But I can tell you this: you are not who you think you are."

Adira's brow furrowed. "What does that mean?"

Liam leaned forward, his eyes piercing. "There's a reason why you're being targeted, a secret buried in your past. And it's up to us to uncover it before they find you."

Adira's stomach lurched. A secret? Her past? What did he know that she didn't?She swallowed hard, grappling with this new information.

"Why would anyone want to harm me?" she asked. "I'm nobody."

Liam shook his head. "You're not nobody, Adira. And that's why you're in danger."

Adira's pulse quickened. There was more to this than Liam was letting on, she could feel it. She had to find out what. "Tell me everything," she demanded.

Liam's jaw clenched, and for a moment, Adira thought he might refuse. Then, with a resigned sigh, he began to speak.

"Years ago, your father was involved in a secret project," Liam said. "A project so dangerous, so groundbreaking, that it was shut down and buried deep. But certain parties never forgot about it, and now that your father is gone, they're targeting you to get what they want."

Adira's eyes widened. "But I don't know anything about this," she protested. "I never even knew my father."

Liam shook his head. "They don't know that."And even if they did, it wouldn't stop them," he continued. "They'll do whatever it takes to find the truth, even if it means taking you out."

Adira felt her skin crawl. "So, what do we do?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.

Liam stood, his eyes fierce with determination. "We find the truth first," he said. "We find out what your father was working on, and why it's worth killing for."

Adira swallowed hard. This was bigger than she could have ever imagined. She nodded, steeling herself for what was to come. "Where do we start?" she asked, standing to face him.

Liam reached into his jacket and pulled out a thumb drive. "Your father left this," he said, placing it in Adira's hand. "It contains information about the project, but it's encrypted."

Adira examined the drive, her mind racing. This was their first clue, their only lead. "So, how do we decrypt it?"

Liam's lips curved into a wry smile. "We need a hacker," he said.Adira raised an eyebrow. "A hacker? Where are we supposed to find one?"

Liam chuckled, his eyes gleaming with mirth. "You'd be surprised," he said. "I know just the guy. A bit of a rogue, but he gets the job done."

Adira nodded, her mind already conjuring images of dark alleys and shady characters. But if this hacker could help them unravel the truth, she was willing to take the risk.

"When do we meet him?" she asked.Liam's grin grew wider. "Tonight," he said. "He operates at night, so we'll need to move quickly.

Adira swallowed her fear. The clock was ticking, and she could feel the weight of the thumb drive in her hand. "What do we need to bring?" she asked.

Liam shook his head. "Just yourselves," he said. "And maybe a bit of courage."

With a deep breath, Adira nodded, a strange sense of excitement coursing through her. This was it. They were about to dive into the unknown.
