Dragonstone was embraced by the clarity of the moon and the swell of the sea, all was calm and no more could be heard than the waves breaking against the shore in the distance, war or not, the hours of late night held all in their dreams. In a four, neither a prisoner nor a royal guest, Mysaria jumped out of the small bed at the sound of something behind the door. It didn't take her more than two movements to rise to her feet with a well-wielded dagger in her hand. She had long lived in the queen's castle and under her protection, but she never slept fully asleep, life had taught her that she could not sleep when there were so many dangers there.
She was ready to pounce on whoever was behind the door, a noise let her know that the second one she had put in place had been dislodged, and as soon as the figure entered, she pounced on it.
"It's me!"
"My queen?"
They didn't know which of the two was more startled. Rhaenyra held Mysaria's arm tightly, threatening to tear at her jugular vein, and Mysaria broke out in a cold sweat at the sight of the queen beneath the dark robe.
"I wish I had known the danger my life was in coming here," Rhaenyra exclaimed with a short, nervous smile."
Mysaria immediately pulled her arm away, keeping her eyes on the queen.
"You should know that it is dangerous to try to secretly enter the room of someone like me, my queen"
Rhaenyra cleared her throat and tried to coax the deep black eyes that looked serenely at her.
"I want you to come with me, there is something I want to discuss", the queen did not wait for a reply, she left the room and Mysaria followed her"
Both walked in silence through the corridors full of torches and Mysaria tried to look from time to time at the queen's face and decipher what was going through her mind, however she did not make much effort, her calm attitude was disturbed when the queen stopped at the threshold of a door and in front of her she saw a copper dragon under the moon that when it saw her made an attempt to attack but stopped when it realised that it was coming with the queen.
Mysaria had already seen a dragon up close, and touched one, Caraxes, when Daemon had taken her to meet him, but even then and now she had not entirely lost her fear of the great gods. She was snapped out of her thoughts when the queen took her by the hand and guided her close enough to Syrax.
"M-my queen What are you doing?"
Rhaenyra turned to look at her nervously. She was the queen, ruled over the seven kingdoms, she had an entire exercise under her command and no one, who cherished her life, dared to contradict her orders, and yet she was nervous as she subtly looked at Mysaria and held her gaze to make her request.
"I want you to ride with me"
The queen's heart was pounding, yet she remained composed and spoke with an authoritative tone of voice. Mysaria knew she could not refuse a request from the queen, not only because she was the sovereign, but because she herself could not refuse that look, after which she saw her nervousness and pretended not to in an attempt to persuade her.
"my queen... worms were born to walk among the earth, not on dragons"
"So you refuse your queen's command?"
" with all due respect, my queen, you said "I Want" at no time did you use "I command""
"should I command you then? So that you obey me"
"my queen" Mysaria tilted her head down a little to hide that what was holding her back was the fear of flying "my apologies, you should do what you think is right"
Rhaenyra understood, that was the case, she didn't need many words from the enigmatic woman to know she was afraid. She took her hand and placed it between Syrax's large muzzle and her own hand. Mysaria felt the air go out of her lungs when she felt the dragon's scales under her touch, but Syrax didn't bother at all, he just let out a growl and nothing more.
"She likes you, you don't have to be afraid." the queen this time guided the woman to the ladder to climb on top of the dragon. They both climbed, and once on top Mysaria grabbed the co-pilot's handlebars with all the strength her body allowed her.
"Soves Syrax," ordered Rhaenyra.
Syrax took flight, at first a little rough and fast until he reached a considerable height, then he slowed down and the flight became smooth and slow.
At this altitude the moon was more clearly visible, the huge castle looked tiny, and the non-clouds were seeping in between Syrax's wings.
"See, it's not scary," commented the queen.
"You say that because you have dragon blood, how could you fear your own," Mysaria replied, barely able to make any gestures as her eyes were fixed on the ground that seemed so far away.
"Are you afraid," Rhaenyra asked.
The black-haired woman looked up from the ground at the woman with white hair billowing in the wind, her back erect and her shoulders firm against the grip of the saddle; then she slowly loosened her grip on her own saddle and wrapped her arms around Rhaenyra's waist, breathing in her scent mingled with the cool breeze.
"No, how could I be afraid? If it is with you, my
queen."
