"Getting lost is not very professional and not a reasonable excuse, is it?" She pushes her glasses up with a finger, eyeing me judgmentally. "Unless you can provide me with more information regarding the extent of it?"
"I- erm... I..." I stutter, thinking of something.
Okay, what the hell, I didn't know about any of the rules...
"Miss Adams..." A low voice rises behind me.
Turning over, I find Damon dressed in a formal suit like always, casually heading towards us.
Damn, he's so-
"I appreciate your concern, you are doing a very great job, but there's no need for it this time." He comes near the counter and speaks directly to the woman, his manner commanding and demanding respect.
I only stand there and watch him raptly.
I can't get over how tall he is and how freaking fine he looks in that suit, jeez...
And what's that cologne?
He smells so-
"Yes, sir." A voice forces me to stop looking at him to look at the woman.
I find her nodding her head obediently and smiling courteously at him. She darts her eyes at me with a hint of curiosity, seeming a bit confused yet afraid to go against him.
"Miss Lancaster..." He calls me, earning my attention once more.
The way my last name rolls off his tongue, enveloped in his husky voice, ignites something within me.
Our eye contact now only makes me more nervous and shy.
Rosalie, girl, don't you start acting weird in front of him and the woman-
"Follow me." He speaks lowly.
"Okay." I reply right away, my voice a bit enthusiastic. Anywhere away from here.
I meekly do so and he takes me to his office, which is also located on the second floor.
Should I say it? Should I say it?
"I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to send that emoji last night, I..." I murmur, finding the need to get it off my chest, shifting on my feet awkwardly.
Actually, I think I shouldn't-
"Why were you late?" He bypasses my speech and walks to the front of his desk, doing something with a pile of files already stacked neatly on his table, facing his back towards me while speaking.
Okay, it's better to talk about something else, yes.
"Well... I..."
I heave out a sigh.
"I swear, I got out very early, I just... Took so much time because I got lost trying to get here..." I pout and raise my palms at him, even though he doesn't look at me, light frustration laced with my voice.
"I..." I take a deep breath.
"I'm not really familiar with navigating the public transport here..." I squint my eyes.
"I'm sorry..." I utter, staring at his back. "I will improve my navigation next time."
I feel bad, it's my first day and I'm already an hour late, like...
That's just awful...
"You don't have a car?" He asks, still not facing me yet.
"N- no..." I gulp.
