We soon went back home, the evening's events replaying in my mind like a whirlwind. The whole night, an unusual silence enveloped us; we didn't talk at all. It felt like a storm was brewing inside me, waiting to be unleashed.

In my room, I paced back and forth, my thoughts a tangled mess. That's when Kamakhya di came in. Her curious eyes fixed on me as I blurted out, "Di, I kissed him." The words hung in the air, heavy and electric.

She screamed, her voice echoing through the walls. Panicking, I quickly hit her arm. "Are you crazy?! Shut it!!" I whispered urgently, glancing towards the door.

Just then, Conor appeared at the doorway, looking puzzled. "Yo. Is everything ok?"

Kamakhya di, ever the drama queen, started to say, "No—"

"Yes. Everything is ok," I cut her off, trying to maintain some semblance of control.

Conor eyed us suspiciously but shrugged. "Alright."

Kamakhya di, never one to miss an opportunity for mischief, added with a sly grin, "You should go talk to Jake about the party."

I stared at her, wide-eyed and shocked. "Why?" Conor asked, his curiosity piqued.

"Just like this. Maybe something exciting happened," she said, glancing at me with a knowing smile.

I shook my head vehemently, hoping to dissuade him. "Alright," Conor finally said, heading back to his room.

As soon as he left, I turned to Kamakhya di, my voice a mixture of frustration and desperation. "Are you dumb!??!? Why would you say that?!?!?"

She chuckled, waving off my worries. "Oh, calm down. Just wait. Even he'll scream like I did."

I rolled my eyes, disbelief evident in my tone. "Sure. I don't think he'll scream like you."

"Just wait and hear," she said, leaning against the wall with a smug look.

Sure enough, about a minute later, a muffled scream echoed from down the hall. Di and I looked at each other, our expressions a mix of shock and amusement.

"Told you. Come," she said, grabbing my hand and dragging me towards Jake's room.

We pushed open the door to find Jake frantically trying to cover Conor's mouth. "What was that scream?" Kamakhya di asked, her tone dripping with mock innocence.

Jake, looking flustered, replied, "Nothing. Nothing at all." He slowly let go of Conor, who was now beet-red, his eyes darting around the room.

Conor and I locked eyes, and in that moment, I knew exactly why he had screamed. The realization hit me like a tidal wave, my heart pounding in my chest.

"Wh-what's wrong?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Nothing... Nothing at all..." Conor stammered, clearly as nervous as I felt.

The tension in the room was palpable, and I could feel my nerves getting the best of me. Unable to handle the pressure, I mumbled a quick excuse and bolted from the room, my heart racing and my mind spinning.

As I reached the safety of my room, I collapsed onto my bed, my thoughts a chaotic mix of excitement and anxiety.

The next day, I found that the air between Jake and me was still a little awkward. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but there was a certain distance that hadn't been there before. However, it didn't take long for things to settle back into a more familiar rhythm. We began to hang out more, and with each passing moment, the ease between us seemed to return.
