You and Liam recently broke up. This was probably the 3rd time within 2 months you'd broken up. It always happened like this. You'd fight, break up, be miserable, see each other again, make up, and the whole cycle repeated. It was hard to break the cycle when you had tons of mutual friends and connections. At every party or gathering you were invited to, you knew the other one would be there as well.

Like tonight, you were at a party with some friends, and Liam was there playing pool with his own group. You were avoiding each other heavily, even though your friends begged you two to just speak to each other and get it over with. You always acted so miserable and pissy when you and Liam were apart. You were too stubborn to admit you needed each other, so you decided to convince yourselves you hated each other instead.

Liam's attention kept drifting towards you, his ex who he just couldn't keep off of his mind. He watched as you laughed and talked with your friends, his gaze turning a bit possessive. He was stubborn sure enough, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't help his heart from longing for you no matter how many times you two broke up and got back together. He downed drink after drink, but he was used to the alcohol. It didn't get him drunk enough to forget about you.

You were channeling your anger the same, with alcohol. However, you didn't have a tolerance like Liam's and when you drank, you got drunk quickly. Liam noticed this and made a mental note to just keep an eye on you in case something happened or someone tried to take advantage of you. His thoughts were interrupted when a slightly tipsy Noel nudged him with his elbow.

"Still pining over the girl, eh?" He teased, elbowing Liam in the ribs.

"Piss off." Liam grumbled, taking another swig of beer. Noel chuckled, putting an arm around Liam's shoulders.

"What's the matter? Can't handle her having fun without you?" Liam bristled at that, his jaw tightening.

"None of your bloody business, mate." He mumbled, shaking off Noel's arm. But Noel laughed again, not giving up that easily.

"C'mon. We all know you're still mad about her. Just go talk to her already. This whole avoiding each other thing is getting old." Noel rolled his eyes. Liam let out an annoyed huff.

"It's not that easy, alright?" He said, taking yet another gulp of beer. Noel just sighed and shook his head.

"Sure it is. You're just being stubborn, as usual. Go talk to her. The worst that can happen is you two end up arguing again." He shrugged. Liam grumbled, knowing Noel had a point. He looked at you again and saw you leaning close to another bloke, a carefree smile on your face. That was enough to send a shot of jealousy through him.

"Why should I have to be the one to apologize? She broke up with me this time." He swirled the beer around in his hand. Noel chuckled and patted him on the back.

"Sure she did. And you know that doesn't matter cause you two always end up together again. So quit making a fuss about it." He paused, then looked to where Liam was looking, noticing you talking to another guy. "Unless you're too scared to lose her to someone else." He added. Those words hit a nerve, and Liam's eyes narrowed.

"I'm not bloody scared of anything. I just... don't think she'll want me back this time." Liam's voice took a turn. Noel heard a bit of almost... vulnerability. His expression softened and he patted Liam's back again.

"It's unlikely, but you're right. She may not. But what I do know is, that bloke over there looks about ready to eat her. And she doesn't look like she's in the right headspace to say no. Together or not, she'd appreciate you stepping in." Noel said. Liam understood what he meant. He didn't want you to try and move on, and not with a guy like that. You looked wasted. But Liam had too much pride to go over there and be the loving boyfriend he wanted to be. He shrugged.
