It's currently a week and two days since the candy shop collapsed.
Soon after Bridget and Henry escaped, the pair went to the hospital, putting up Henry's injuries to being mugged. The nurses tried to get the cops involved, but the teens said they never saw the man's face so it was no use. And so, the nurses dropped it, treated their wounds, and sent them on their way.
In the waiting room on their way out, Bridget gave Henry her number and told him to call her if anything happened or if he needed anyone to talk to. Henry smiled and called his butler to pick him up on the hospital phone.
The boy gave Bridget a ride home, quickly hugged her and they both went on their own way.
It's been a while since then.
Bridget returned home and told her parents that she got into a bad situation and left it at that.
Her parents were sympathetic and told her to tell the college she was going to that she was going to enter next year, leaving her with a skip year until then.
The girl decided to use all the money she's saved up to be going away to college to rent an apartment for a year and has been relaxing there since.
She's not happy. At least not how she was before. And she may never be again.
Henry returned home to his parents who didn't even recognize he was gone. His maid asked where he was, her being the one to practically raise him. He said he didn't want to talk about it and spent most of his time in his room.
Bridget and Henry haven't talked for a week and two days since the candy shop.
Until Henry heard some news going around.
He instantly got nervous, texting Bridget for the first time since the incident.
'Where do you live' -Henry
'Who is this?' -Bridget
'Henry"
"1645 Clydesdale Place"
Without thinking, the girl answered. After what had happened, she didn't care if Henry knew where she lived. She trusted him more than she's ever trusted anyone.
About 20 minutes later, Bridget heard a knock on her door.
She got up from sitting on the couch and peered through the peep hole.
She was met with blonde hair and blue eyes.
She unlocked the door and opened the door.
"Hi..." Henry says softly.
"Hey. You okay?" She responds.
He shakes his head before the girl steps aside and lets him into her apartment.
The boy looks around quickly admiring the place before sitting on the red couch.
Bridget goes over and sits next to him.
"Have you heard? They want to rebuild the candy shop." Henry says simply, looking over into Bridget's eyes.
"Are-are you sure?" She asks nervously.
He nods.
Bridget sighs and grabs a hold of the boy's hand.
"It's alright. There's nothing we can do to stop them. That's not our call," she says.
"I know...but what if-" he starts.
"What if it's a normal candy shop? We can't stop the town from enjoying candy even if we don't anymore. Just...if anything happens. We'll be there. Maybe each morning we can drive past to make sure it isn't on lockdown. I usually go out for morning coffee anyway if you wanna join me?" She asks, smiling gently.
"Yeah. Yeah okay. But I don't wanna leave you. Not again. This burden is too large to carry alone. I tried..." he says solemnly.
She understands. She understands more than anyone.
"I'm here," she says, leaning in and engulfing the boy in a hug.
He sighs and collapses into her arms.
And they stick to their plan.
Henry takes over his father's company and Bridget turns down the scholarship in favor of staying in Lapel, Indiana.
The news is flooded for about another week of missing articles for their fallen friends.
Though as the time passes, nobody ever finds out what happens to those teens.
The pair grow older together, getting married at 30 and keeping out their promise, waiting for the store to go on lock down.
But it never does. Not in the time they're alive.
Because the candy shop was a one in a million chance. Just like the pair's relationship to one another.
But one thing is for certain. Not a day goes past that the two don't think about what happened those fateful days.
In that candy shop.
The Lapel Candy Shop.
That was opened...many many years ago.
