Am I normal? no... definitely not. Not even in the shadow world am I normal. although there was a time when I was considered normal, at least in a supernatural setting. Context, my family and I have the sight, we can see the hidden world, filled with magical beings such as Warlocks, vampires and the like, as well as demons and the entitled demon police who protect us.
My parents never trusted the Shadowhunters. They said they were cruel and proud just like Lucifer Morningstar. They believed that one day they would fall and someone else would take their place. I had never met one so I refused to have an opinion on them. the only shadowhunters I allowed myself to hate was Valentine and his circle, and his son, Jonnathan. although they've been dead a while now.
I guess I should tell you a little about who I am instead of getting into boring politics. My name is Katalina Peterov, although my family used to call me Alina for short. My parents were from russia but me and my younger sister were born in the states. I've lived in Alaska for most of my life, but now I live in L.A. You're probably wondering why I keep using past tense, well it's because my parents and my sister are dead. But I don't want to get into that either, I want to tell you why I'm different from other mundanes with the sight. The truth is... I'm a warlock. or at least I think I am.
when I was about eight years old I started doing magic. my dad figured that I was a warlock and therefore not his kid. My mother had other suspicions, she believed there was something more to me because I didn't have a warlock mark. In the end she brought me to the spiral labyrinth, in which we were blindfolded most of the time. the warlocks there informed me that there was only one other warlock in existence who didn't have a warlock mark, and that was because she was half Shadowhunter. after running a series of tests on me they concluded that I was definitely not half Shadowhunter and the magic that I have is demonic. They also told me that I'm not a warlock because my blood is completely normal, the stated that I was a completely normal mundane with a curse.
At that mother started shouting at them about how rude it was to call someone a mundane when they have the sight. More context Russian mundanes are very insistent that they aren't mundanes at all, in fact we gave ourselves our own name, Shadow walkers, I know not very creative, but it sounds better in Russian. Anyway, my mother being the hot headed person she was, began to pick a fight with the warlocks of the spiral labyrinth. As expected, they kicked us out. but as mother went through the portal back to our home a warlock stopped me from following, He was a tall man with green skin and white hair with small horns. he told me that if I ever needed help, that I could find him. Honestly I don't remember his name. He also told me that I was being kept on record now and that I should be careful around other warlocks. I asked him if that meant I was considered a warlock but he shook his head stating that the spiral labyrinth does not but he believed I was affected by demons in some way, just like all warlocks. so in a sense I was as close to a warlock as a mundane could get, I didn't try and correct him by saying I was a shadowalker, that was more my mother's thing. He gave me a card with random numbers on in and walked away, I was quickly herded through the portal after that.
I only saw him once after that, when my family died, it turned out that the random numbers were actually coordinated to his exact location changing every second. I contacted him the same night they died and he came and took me to LA. he got me a job as a runner in the shadow market and told me to come up with a new name for myself. he informed me that he was going to fake my death and that I would need a new identity. I decided that I was going to glamor myself as a warlock by changing my sclera black and turning my iris yellow making them catlike, then I shortened my name to just Kat. Kat the warlock.
