Starla's POV
I couldn't believe I let a sniper into my home. Kaden reaches over and takes my hand. As we pull into Isabels' house, we both get out at the same time.
"Where's Asher?" I ask her as we enter
"He's upstairs asleep. Is everything okay?" she asked
"Could you watch him for a little longer?" I asked
Kaden looks over at me. "I don't think you should be going over there,"
"They brought that man into our home Kaden with Asher there," I tell him
He nods, heading upstairs. I follow him. I watch as he takes a glock, loading it he put it into his back jeans. I reach around him as he is loading another, grabbing the one he just put in his jeans.
"What are you doing?" He asked
"Taking your gun," I tell him as I get a feel for it
He smiles as he watches me handle it "Damn that looks hot" he says as I place it in the back of my jeans he leans down kissing my lips "when we get back, I'm going fuck the hell out you"
I bite my lip, smiling. "Don't make promises," I tell him, "And don't try to take my mind off things."
He smiles, kissing me again he pockets the gun, and we head back downstairs.
"Where are yall going?" Isabel asked
"Just stay in mom and keep an eye on Asher," Kaden tells her he gives her a kiss on the cheek
"Be careful," she tells us
I hug her neck. "we will," I tell her
I count our ammo as we approach the Monroes house. Kaden pulls up next to Jason's black Sadan. He knocks on the door as we get to it. Jason looks between us as he sees us standing out on the porch.
"I wasn't expecting this," Jason says
I push through. There he was, the guy that tried to kill me sitting on the couch that I had sat on many times as a teen. I pull my gun, pointing straight at him.
"What the fuck" Jason asked his voice raised
Kaden had his gun on Jason. "I went to see Sebastian today" I told him
"Starla" Jason says
Zachary smiles, just proving to me he's sick. "Is it true, did you allow the man that tried to kill me and my husband into my house" I ask
"What's going on" Moria ask off from the side
"That's what we're trying to figure out Moria" I tell her "This man" I tell her "he's the one that tried to kill me"
"Is that true dad" Moria asked
"It was a big miss understanding" Jason says "Starla please listen to me"
"I'm listening"
"Sebastian told Zachary lies about you." Jason says "He told him you had betrayed the family"
"So he decided to kill me instead of asking" I ask
"I admit it's a bad move on him but Sebastian..."
"Sebastian is sick" I scream at him "he needs help, and you're not helping him"
"I've tried Starla" Jason says
"By locking him in a cabin a way from society."
"What do you want me to do"
"Make it right Jason, make it all right. Put this sinper where he belongs and get Sebastian help. Do it now or I'll make it right my way" I tell him
"It's not that easy Starla" Jason says
"Call the damn police" I tell him "now" I scream when he doesn't do it fast enough
I was tried and wanted this whole miss to be over with. He nods picking up the phone with shaking hands.
"Let me see that" Kaden tells him Kaden dills the police for him then hands it back to him.
"Yes I would like to report my son. He's the one that you've been looking for the sinper" Jason says "no we're not going be going anywhere officer"
He sounded so defeated as he gave them his address. A part of me wanted to hug him but I couldn't. I couldn't look over at him. He had been the one that raised me when my parents died but in the end only blood mattered to him. I was nothing more then someone he could throw away. That hurt me more then anything. I had always thought of him as a father. But now I couldn't even see him as the uncle I used to call him.
As the wail of the police got louder Kaden and I pocket our pieces. Kaden pulls me into his arms as tears start to fall. All these years all my life all I ever wanted was my parents. But I couldn't have them life had dealt me a shitty hand. Now it was up to me to take all this negative and trun it into a positive.
"I'm so sorry" Moria says hugging me as they read Zachary his Miranda Rights.
"I'm sorry too," I tell her
Weeks later, they move Sebastian into a mental institution to help him focus on getting better. Jason moves into a smaller house. Moria came and stayed with us as she went back to college for nursing. Asher is growing like a weed, and Kaden and I are talking about more children.
Things started looking up. We moved Isabel out closer to us selling off her land and house. She didn't care much for the down size but Kaden had told her she didn't need that big of a house. Plus she got to be closer to Asher. She didn't complain as much when Kaden pointed that out. Having her close by was good for us too. I don't know what happened to Jason after his move. We lost connection after that. Moria I think kept taps on him for awhile. Then eventually I think she too lost contact with him. I stop hearing anything about him. It didn't spoil our time. We went on with our life.
A year after I gave birth to my daughter. Moria had started a new job at a close hospital working nights. She was saving up to get her own place. And Asher just truned a year old.
Kaden and I had just laid the children down for the night. I lay in his arms safe in our room.
"I love you" he whispers
"I love you"
The phone rings, so I lean over picking it up without looking at the ID I answer.
"Hello"
"I just wanted to tell you I'm sorry I fealed you"
I sit up as the phone died "who was that" Kaden asked
"Jason" I told him
That was the last anyone ever heard from him again. Months later Moria got a call letting her know Jason was fond. Shot dead executioner style through the head.
They let Sebastian and Zachary both out to burry their father. Carmen came to be with her son. She was so much younger than I thought she would be. Her red hair was pulled up into a bun. She wore a black dress and shoes.
After she came over to say something to Moria. "I'm sorry for your loss," she says. "He was a good man."
"Thank you," Moria says
I told the police about the strange call. But they said the guy that shot Jason said he was paid to kill him. Jason had planned the whole thing out. He was really just living in the past.
On our way home to pick up the children, I wonder if death would always follow me?
