I stand in front of the biggest building in my town. The thick pillars on the front porch are a white type of clay, carved into beautiful detail. I walk up a short flight of stairs to a tall door with a stained window above the doorknob. I move my hand up to knock on the glass, making my knuckles tingle at the contact.
The sound of my knocks echo causing silence to respond, the door eventually slowly creaks open, a short man with a powdered wig peaks his head up at me.
"Hm..he was expecting you to arrive one day or another.." He opens the door fully and quickly turns around. "Sir! Mr. Sallner is here!.." He turns his head around back towards me. His harsh gaze tells me to walk into the house. I step my foot into a big spaced room, I look around to see every aspect of the building to be spotless.A voice interrupted my thoughts.
"Come now, come now!" The man says, who seems to be a butler of some sort. He starts to pace towards stairs with short steps with red carpet flowing over it. I try to keep up the speed of his movements and end up following behind him, ascending up the shallow stairs. The second floor is a hallway, following around the edge of the house, being able to look down to the main room of the house. There are doors that line up throught out the floor, but there is one door that is bigger than the rest. It has double doors and the door knobs seem to be a shinier metal. This certain door seems to be where the staircase leads up to, and where the butler is waiting for me.Once I end up next to him, he knocks on the door, "Is it okay to come in?" He says as he creaks the door slightly open and pushes his ear towards the crack. There was a silence for a few seconds, sometimes interrupted by the sound of ink on paper. Soon a confirmation was heard,
"Ah yes," the servant swings the door open politely and stops it right before it hits the wall. He steps to the side, right next to the door, waiting for new commands. I took one step into the door way and just stood there, the office like room was big, fancy, yet cozy in a way. Every wall had either paintings or books, the floor was wood with a red carpet as a center peice and a man sat behind an expensive desk. My observations got interrupted by a sharp, posh voice, "Hm, I was expecting you Sallner, your situation is very unfortunate," The man looks tall, slim and had an outfit most people in this area could not afford. He was the general of our town, my boss, Minister Harrison. I walk forward, right in front of the man's desk."Then you know it's horrendous to have her hanged or even in jail. Mary is a generous person and cares for others." I say and stare into his eyes, my face morphs into one serious.
"Oh I am sorry, but if you're here for Mrs. Sallner to be released from her crimes, then I'm sad to say you and your wife are out of luck." As Harrison said those words my bones melted, he was my only chance to release the one being that could caress my heart. My shoulders hung and my hands turn numb.
"Please..." I plead. Minister Harrison never left his seat as he looked back at the servant who was still standing at the door, then back to me.
"Escort him out." He says and looks back to the papers on his desk, picking up his quill.
I stand there in disbelief as the servant twists me around for the exit. It wasn't even five minutes and I already am being kicked out. Just as I start walking to leave I heard the scribbles continue just like how they were before I walked into his office. The servant pushed me to the door that I first entered in, as I reached the front porch, the door slams. This whole experience felt like my mind was not attached to my skin, all I could do was stare off into town. The slam caused a few people to look, but eventually looked away realizing there was nothing. I stumble towards the first stone stairs on the porch and sit down. My head rested on my knees and my hands on the back of my legs. My eyes slowly closed, wind from the ocean grazed my skin, and tears start to race down my face.
Eventually my mind started to calm down and the stains on my face began to dry. I lift my face off my knees and look forward. I slowly stand up and start to descend the stairs and I head straight into town. I follow the twist and turns down through out the busy town. My pace quickens as I knew one thing on my mind.
Mary should be free, and I will do anything to make this true.
