A few weeks had passed since Princess Rhaenyra and Lady Elara set off on their journey to visit Elara's parents, a trip that would take nearly three months. Rhaenyra felt heaviness in her heart as she prepared to leave, knowing she would be away from Alicent and the children for such a long time. Alicent, too, felt a sadness at their departure. But duty called, and they both had to accept it.

One morning, as the sun bathed the realm in its gentle light, Queen Alicent awoke feeling unwell. A strange nausea gripped her, and an unsettling thought crossed her mind: pregnancy. The memory of her recent miscarriage haunted her, making her uneasy. She quickly get up and visit to the maesters, seeking confirmation of her suspicions.

Maester Greenway greeted her with a respectful bow. "Your Grace, how may I assist you today?"

Alicent, her voice laced with anxiety, replied, "I have been feeling unwell, and I fear it might a sign of pregnancy"

Maester Greenway cut her off with a gentle smile. "Yes, my Queen, you are indeed pregnant. Congratulations."

Alicent managed a soft smile, her emotions a whirlwind of hope and fear. "Thank you," she murmured, though her heart was not yet at ease.

The maester's expression grew serious. "There is something you need to know, Your Grace."

Alicent's heart skipped a beat, dread washing over her. Memories of her lost child surfaced, and she felt a familiar weight pressing down on her. She steeled herself and asked, "What is it?"

Greenway's tone was gentle but firm. "My Queen, I do not wish to alarm you, but given your recent miscarriage, conceiving again so soon may pose certain risks. It is crucial that you avoid stress and take extra care of yourself. Rest as much as possible, take leisurely walks in the garden, and ensure you are in a peaceful environment. I know you cherish your time with Prince Aegon and Princess Helaena, but it would be wise to avoid lifting them for the time being."

Alicent nodded, her mind a mix of relief and worry. "I understand," she said quietly.

Greenway continued, "I see that you are anxious, my Queen. While it is only natural, try not to dwell on past sorrows. Your health and that of your unborn child depend on your ability to find peace. I understand your fears, but stress will only harm you and the baby."

Leaving the maester's chambers, Alicent made her way back to her own rooms. As she walked the corridors, she encountered Ser Harwin Strong, who approached her with concern etched across his features.

"Your Grace," he said, bowing slightly. "Are you all right? The servants informed me that you were visiting the maesters."

Alicent offered him a reassuring smile. "You do keep a close watch, Ser Harwin. Are you frightening them into reporting everything to you?"

Ser Harwin chuckled apologetically. "Forgive me, my Queen, but before leaving, Princess Rhaenyra instructed me to ensure your safety and that of the children at all costs. I have strict orders to be aware of your every move, uncomfortable as it may be. I assure you, it's for your own protection."

Alicent sighed, acknowledging his dedication. "I appreciate your vigilance. I was indeed at the maesters'. I am pregnant."

Harwin's eyes widened with surprise and joy. "Congratulations, my Queen. Should I inform Princess Rhaenyra of the news or you will?"

Alicent shook her head firmly. "No, Ser Harwin, please do not tell anyone. We must wait until Rhaenyra returns."

"But, Your Grace—" Harwin began, only to be gently interrupted by Alicent.

"Ser Harwin," she said softly, yet with resolve, "if anything goes amiss, I do not wish to raise suspicions by sending urgent news to the princess. Others might question why I would inform her so suddenly. I prefer to keep this between us for now."

Ser Harwin nodded, understanding the gravity of her decision. "As you wish, my Queen. Your secret is safe with me."

Alicent nodded, feeling the burden of her secret but also a glimmer of hope. As she walked to her chambers, she thought about balancing her duties as a queen, her love for her children, and the fragile new life growing inside her.
