(Authors note: Were just gonna pretend Harry Potter takes place several years later then it actually does, because I need the timelines to make rough sense! Also, this is going to be just pre double exposure, so I don't get anything from that game wrong when it comes out. Also, Harry Potter is in year 3 here 😭)
When Max Caulfield awoke in a cold sweat on the morning of the 27th of September, she just knew today was going to be interesting. She laid in bed for a while, trying to piece together the dream she'd been having. But after a moment, it scattered, and she got up. Rising from her bed, she headed right for her door. She grabbed her bathroom supplies along the way and slipped out of the door, slinking along the hallway towards her apartments bathroom. She was lucky, she mused, as she stepped into the shower, leaving her pyjamas discarded just outside. Closing the curtain, she turned on the water and let it cascade over her. Tilting her head back, she let the water wash over a small bruise on her collar. People would automatically assume it was a hickey, but in reality, Max really was just that clumsy. She sighs as she closes her eyes, letting the water soothe her aches.
It was only a little bit later, When Max stepped out of the shower and was dressing in her room, did she notice the owls outside. All of them stared at her. She paused, clutching her shirt close to her chest. The owls weren't moving. Slowly, cautiously, Max pulled her shirt over her head, getting properly dressed. She did make sure to close the curtains, though, just in case. She sighed in relief as she got dressed in her favorite red shirt and yellow beanie. She examined herself in the mirror and smiled. Very hipster.
She exited her bedroom, crossing to her kitchen. She'd just sat down at her kitchen table, cereal bowl in front of her, phone in hand, when the sound of a letter being posted through the letterbox hit her ears. She sighed, setting her phone, open on Tumblr, down on her table. She got up and approached the front door. She bent over, grabbing the letter. She lifted it, examining it. Eggshell white paper on the envelope, smooth as silk. She turned it over, examining the inky lettering. Elegant, professional handwriting, adressed to one Maxine Caulfield. Max frowned at that. Clearly, this person didn't know her. She scanned the letter for an address. Hogwarts was listed on the letter.
Max grabbed a knife from the kitchen, cutting the envelope open, pulling the letter out. Parchment paper. How pretentious. Although it wasn't like she had a leg to stand on, she thought, slightly bemused at her own subconscious. She scanned the letter and paused. Hogwarts? Magic? Magic existed? And they wanted her to teach there? The implications were huge. A million questions swarmed her mind. She set the paper down and distracted herself with her cat, picking the tabby feline up and nuzzling into the fur. She took a breath, letting her mind calm itself. She cooed, her fingers scratching the cat beneath the chin. He purred in Maxs hands. Probably the only male who would ever do so, she mused. She nearly laughed at that, making a mental note to put that particular internal quip in her journal entry for the day. She set her cat, named Jack, down and busied herself with his breakfast while she pondered over that letter. If this was a prank, a hell of a lot of money had gone into that parchment paper and eggshell white envelope. On the other hand, those owls outside had been odd. Plus, it wasn't like Max hadn't seen weirder. She could literally rewind time after all. Probably why they got into touch. How did they find out? Well, Max would just have to ask them, she supposed. She scanned the letter again, checking its contents. Apparently, they normally only hired from within England or Britain, but due to her incredible power, they were willing to make an exception. Max grinned at that. Incredible was right. They didn't call her super Max for nothing. Then Chloe popped into her head, and the smile dimmed. She sighed. Damnit.
Well, a vacation could do her good she admitted to herself. She looked the letter over again. There are no instructions on how to get there or anything. No job applications. Just... acceptance. She frowned again. Then, she spotted it. At the bottom, a small PS. It read,'A member of our faculty will meet you outside your local library.' Max paused. Well damn. These wizards really had thought of everything. She sighed, grabbing her phone off the table. She dialed a number, holding the phone to her ear. As the caller picked up, Max was graced with the beautiful sound of the voice of Kate Marsh. Max sighed in relief as Kate spoke. "Hey Max, what's up?" The religious girl asked. Max smiled widely upon hearing Kates wonderful voice. "Hey Kate. Uh, I've got a potential photography gig coming up. The only issue is that it'll take a good few weeks. So you wouldn't mind having Jack for a bit, would you?" She asks, her voice full of hope. Max could practically hear Kates smile through the line. "Of course I don't mind, Max! I love that little guy." Came the response. Max grinned widely, her shoulders perking up slightly. "Thanks Kate, you're the best!" Max exclaimed, already speeding though her apartment, packing her crap. "I'll be over in about an hour alright?" She asks. After hearing Kates words in the affirmative, Max quickly bid the religious blonde goodbye and put the phone down. She smiled down at her cat, Jack. She sighs, petting his head affectionately before going about the business of packing his stuff up. She included about a weeks worth of cat food and far too much in the way of toys. With that, she decided to pack her own stuff next. She just tossed her entire wardrobe into a suitcase, stuffing it down to make it fit. With that, she tossed on her green coat and went about the business of packing her car, making extra sure to bring her camera and camera bag. This place was sure to have some great photo ops. With that out the way, she was ready to go. Max hopped into her old ass car, put Warren in his cage in the back, and set off to Kates place. This was gonna be fun.
(WHOOO! alright, 1.1K ain't bad! And this is gonna be the shortest chapter, so get ready! Please make sure to let me know if you have any ideas for the story going forward, because I'm open to suggestions! Love yall, peace!)
