"Remember to stay low Mila, if the Demico family catch you your ass will be as dead as a doornail".
"Gee thanks for the reassuring words Gia I really appreciate it".
"Just keeping it real with you". I snickered, adjusting the earpiece that was struggling to stay put on my ear. "Where did you even get this earpiece from, fucking Walmart?"
"Ha.Ha, now focus, there is a fire escape door leading to the roof on your left".
"Copy that". I strode down the corridor nearing the fire escape. Once I got there I left my maintenance trolley outside the and took the broom with me, lodging it between the handle. I continued up the staircase for what seemed to be a lifetime, my legs beginning to ache and cramp
"Gia, exactly how many floors are there in this shit hole?"
"Thirty-two, well thirty-three if you include the basement". I let out a fatigued sigh, hauling my body up the flights of endless stairs. "Cool, no yeah that's really awesome."
I eventually made it to the balcony, my cardio endurance evidently not up to par.
"Are you on the roof yet Mila?" I took in a deep breath. "Surprisingly yes".
"Okay, your gear is on the west side in one of the vents, the screws are loose. Once you've gotten it take your position on the north east, that should give you a good enough angle over the function." I walked over to the vent Gia informed me of, pulling out a large black duffel bag. I brought it over to north east side and placed it on the ground, pulling out a DSR-1 sniper rifle.
I trailed my fingertips over the cold stainless silver of the barrel, the coolness calming my skin. "Oh how I've missed playing with you". I placed the tripod of the gun on the roofs edge, thankfully enough it gave me a perfect birds eye view over the formality appearing on the earth below me.
"Wait for the Don to present his speech, that will make your life a whole lot easier". I glanced down at the gathering, gang affiliates mingling and shaking hands with one another acting as if they don't try to eradicate each other every other day.
Pathetic cowards.
The Demico family were one of the most powerful Mafia Organisations in the world, their embezzlement and weapon cargos made them completely drown in money. That money offered them unlimited bribery, partnerships and deadlier weapons, but it also made them gain the most enemies and rivals.
The Demico family had no soul, they were a band of completely ruthless monsters who got off on the torture of others. They were sick. That's why I was immediate in securing this job, not for the insane amount of cash I'd be receiving, just the pure satisfaction of watching that family crumble. A Mafia is nothing without their Don after all.
"The Don should be taking the stage shortly Malia, just hold tight and get ready". Without further ado, Lorenzo Demico began to make his way up the staircase and onto the sizable stage, adjusting the tie on his tux. I took my stance and examined through the snipers scope, tailgating Lorenzo's movements with the red recital in the lens. He situated himself in front of the podium, taking the microphone in his hand thus beginning the introduction of his speech.
"It's your time to shine Malia, give the old bastard a third eye". I chucked amusingly, positioning the reticle in the centre of his forehead. I slowly laced my finger over the trigger, ready to push it down before I felt the sensation of cool metal pressing on the back of my head.
The sound of a low and masculine voice rumbled behind my ear, tickling the skin. "You've got a death wish piccola vipera". The stranger behind me grabbed my arm forcefully and spun me around to face him, placing the barrel of the gun to my forehead.
Before he could muster a thought, I grabbed the barrel of the gun with my left hand and pushed away his wrist with my right, now giving me possession of the gun. He recovered quickly and attempted to land a punch on the side of my face, however I dodged to the side and smacked the barrel of the gun against his forehead making him drop the ground.
"Malia, the speech is almost over what are you waiting for fucking shoot him!"
"Yeah I'm a little busy at the moment just give me a second". I shot the guy writhing on the ground in the leg, spinning and launching myself back to the sniper rifle perched up on the roof. Luckily for me Lorenzo was still soaking in the rounds of applause from the audience, flaunting his status on the stage. I looked down in the scope and centred the reticle once again in between his eyes.
"Goodnight asshole". I pulled the trigger, the bullet piercing the skin exactly where I had intended.
An uproar at the function below me started to form, people were hollering and shouting whilst trying to find haven behind various forms of cover. I packed the sniper rifle back into the duffel bag and took it back over to the vent, hiding the evidence.
I fixed my hand to the earpiece, adjusting it slightly. "Gia, give me a status".
"There's about ten bodyguards fenced at your exit, you're going to have to find another way back to the van".
I sighed, slightly irritated. "Anything you have come up with or am I completely free balling it?"
"The building on the south, if you can find a way to get over to the roof there's an external stairway down to the alley, I can drive the van there".
"Perfect". I walked my way over to the south side of the roof, looking across at the distance between the other building and me. It was approximately about ten feet away, easy right?
I paced backwards from the edge of the roof to gain sufficient distance for a successful run up. I took in a large breath and sprinted towards the other building, placing my foot on the edge and leaping into the air.
I missed the roof entirely.
I somehow managed to catch myself on one of the perrons, my stomach instantly bruised by the impact. "Ouch". I groaned as I swung my leg over the bar, starting my decent down the ladders.
"The van is in the alley, hurry up".
I eventually planted both feet on the ground and ran towards Gia's van that was sitting at the end of the alleyway, hauling the door across and vaulting into the back.
"A turtle would have gotten here faster you know".
"Gia, how about you try jumping ten feet from a building and see how fast your moving".
"Nah, I think I'll leave the physical side of things up to you".
I laughed, a jab of pain emitting from my abdomen, an obvious bruise already forming.
"Mission successful Malia, the downfall of the Demico's has begun". Gia seeming giddy and relieved in the driver's seat.
I rested by head against the back of the seats and expanded my body across the floor of the van, sighing in satisfaction.
"Fuck yeah".
